a day trip

January is the Monday of months, and this is not only January, but indeed, Monday. I got back to England last night at 1 am, and while it's not bad to be back, I definitely had enough sunny days on my holiday to make me already feel a bit nostalgic.

These are from last week. My boyfriend and I escaped our various pressing tasks to go on a day trip into the gorgeous Catalan countryside, and visit a couple of picturesque villages. These pictures are from the first of them, Tavertet, population 158! It has all of three streets and the silence the day we were there was complete. I stood on the edge of the cliff, and the only sound for miles was the buzzing of a nearby fly. There was also a strange quality to the light, bright and fierce. Later we realized it had been the day of a partial solar eclipse.

Now, back to the Monday blues...

  3. Your outfit is lovely. Even lovelier is your description of the little town...how beautiful in silence. I like the way you describe the light especially, you can see it in the pictures. Chin up...it'll be spring soon! :)

  8. These pictures are just gorgeous (super jealous of the amazing sunshine). Don't you just hate when holidays are over? I made it a priority to always have a trip booked before I come back from holidays as it eases the end of vacation depression ever so slightly...

  9. I fly to Ottawa on Paddy's Day (leaving Dublin on our national drinking holiday? what am I thinking??) and after that I need to have flights booked to see David Sedaris in London in May. See? I'm completely neurotic about this! :)

  10. The sights are really beautiful, a bit similar to the interior of central Portugal.

Oh that dress again, I'm glad you posted it since it reminded me to put my floral dress into my list of clothes to take to England ;)

  13. Lovely pictures except one. Enjoyed the pictures and write up. 158 - that is all the population. That is amazing. In my subdivision we have around 60 houses with an average 4 person in each house.

  20. You take the concept of a day trip to a whole new level! How perfectly quaint and, yes, picturesque this little village is. I'm really in awe of the beauty here and am happy you were able to soak it all in. I very much like the bit where you said the buzzing of a fly was the only sound you heard whilst standing on a cliff.

Thanks for sharing these photos, Emily! :)

  36. these photos are lovely, and you look great in green. :) (you have green eyes too, right? i wear green often so people do not mistake my green eyes for blue).

  37. @tastymoog: They are indeed green! And it's a colour I love to wear, though for some reason I always have difficulty finding things I like in green..
