On the second half of our day trip the other day, we went to another picturesque Catalan town, Rupit. Apparently it always gets voted in the top five of cutest places in Catalonia. I thought both towns that we visited were just lovely, but even more stunning in my opinion was the surrounding area, which I didn't get good pictures of due to intense and really horrible carsickness (I had to get out on the way back and have a moment over a drain. Some old woman was watching me disapprovingly across the street obviously thinking I was drunk at 4 pm).

My photographer tells me I often pick unflattering photos of myself to post on the blog, which I'm not sure how to react to. Perhaps it's just that men and women have a very different idea of what constitutes a 'flattering' photo. Perhaps I'm sometimes as interested in the background and framing. Hmmm. All I know is that all these photos are way more flattering than what I've actually looked like for the past few days. I think I'm just short of having pneumonia at the moment. Yesterday was pretty interesting, as I struggled to finish my remaining essay while coughing up a lung and self-medicating with red wine (my father can speak at length about its healing properties) ; ) I'm so glad that's over, and I am soooo taking the weekend off from schoolwork!

Does anyone remember the story I told about hitting the log so it "shits presents?" In this post!

  1. Oh the little town is lovely, I especially like that walk in the second picture!
My boyfriend says the same thing about my pictures! I agree with you, men and women have different connotations for whats pretty ans whats not... Anyway I think yours are always flattering and pretty! :)

I am thinking of taking either a leather jacket or a light trench coat (water proof) to London, what do you think it's best to take considering the weather?

  4. Emily--as I am looking at that last photo, it seems you have red highlights in your hair too. Am I right?

I do remember the "log" tradition from a previous post. Love the narrow alleys and the stone work up against real stone.

    Take care and drink up.

  5. Well, I don't know about the other photos of you, but that last one is adorable! :-) Love that red coat and carsickness is the WORST. Until you experience it first hand, you have no idea. I've grown up getting car sick and, sadly, I did not grow out of it like some do. In other news, get well soon!

  6. Emily,

Most of them are nice pictures. I don't know about your photographer but my picks - the best in this lot - no 3 from top (with rays of sun) and the second best - last one.

Not really sure if wine helps liver but if it helped you, I am glad.

  7. @Carrie: I KNOW! Everyone told me I would grow out of it, but I guess I can say by this age that it's not going to happen... ; (

  8. Haha cannot agree more with the different perception men and women have of "flattering" ... For me it's if I look pretty and slim it's a great one, buy they care more about lightning and focus, so funny! ... Hope you get better soon :)

  9. Idyllic :)

Background, framing and lighting comes first for me too and I agree "girl pretty" can often be miles from "boy pretty" :) Variety, spices and all :)

    Feel better soon!

  10. I happen to like the photos you post and think they are quite flattering. I have started to feel like I am coming down with something so I am gonna try your idea of self-medicating with red wine :) It sounds tasty

  12. You are so right men and women INDEED have a very different idea of what constitutes a 'flattering' photo. You how ever looked super cute in all of them. Looks like a great place to visit.

  13. Sweet goodness gracious, I think I need to add this town to my list of places to visit one day; it looks absolutely frozen in time. Gorgeous. Movie-picturesque!

My photographer (husband) tells me the same thing about the photos I pick out for my blog, whereas he chooses pictures I think look horrendous. You look beautiful in all of your photos; I think perhaps we should just not listen to our picture-takers!

also: yes! yes! yes! is right! i knew we were kindred spirits :) i raise a glass of my (always) vin rouge to you.

ps the present-shitting log is freakishly awesome.

  27. pps i KNOW! aren't those bowling shoes lame? that's the first thing i said when we got to the alley--usually they're leftovers from the seventies, but thse look more like nightmarish nursing home shoes.

  36. Mothers seem to have their own ideas on flattering/unflattering photos. And grandmothers, too! Both my mom and grandma have ''favorite'' photos of me that I personally think are hideous. And I'm with you, sometimes it's more about the lighting, framing & other components that make a photo flattering.

Sorry to hear about your cough! I had a gnarly one a few weeks ago and almost self-diagnosed myself with walking pneumonia or some other bronchial inflammation. It then promptly cleared up.

Ahh, the log! With a facial expression like that it better be ''dropping'' some good presents! ;) As for Rupit, it looks so charming. I love the feeling that centuries old towns/cities can give you. The history, significance and all that.

  39. Car sickness is the pits! The only time I ever seem to get it is if I'm facing backwards while the car is moving forward, I have to close my eyes!

And for the record, I always like the photos you post! it's true, sometimes the "best" photo doesn't mean the one where you look the most photogenic...gotta take in account the other elements that make a photo good!

    Feel better Miss Em!
