basque beret

Another super-simple look. I love this dress. When my mom asked what I wanted for Christmas I sent her links to a bunch of impractically overpriced dresses and said "just use this as inspiration." I later amended my wishlist to "tartan, tights and sparkles." Anyway, I absolutely love this dress she scooped up. I'm normally into slightly louder and more assertive clothes, and I do kind of wish it was a more insistent colour, but it is absolutely the last word in comfort, totally flattering, and well, plaid.

The hat is/was my mom's and another score from my box-diving (a popular sport in our attic). It's made in Canada but has "basque beret" printed inside. I assume that means I should be wearing it like this... but that won't be happening! Anyway, the red hat is punctuating a neutral look... much like that little red birdfeeder is doing for the grey winter landscape.

P.S. Feliz dia de los reyes, for those in Latin America, Spain, Catalonia and I assume some other countries as well? Hope you all get what you wished for!

  5. I love that beret! (Then again, I also love red.) :) I have a beret myself, but it is black. I love it, but don't wear it as often as I should.

  6. I like the whole look, and though you say you prefer more insistent colours, I think the way you've teamed it with the vibrant beret, really is a great juxtaposition, it being more muted shades- it makes the hat seem even more vibrant and fun!

  7. I love the addition of the red beret - it really makes your outfit pop! I recently dug mine out too and have been wearing it almost every day (mostly because my hair is in desperate need of a cut and colour!).

  8. Lovely dress! I have an actual basque beret, but it's very small, it barely fits on my head, so no coice in how to wear it.

  24. I think you rule the plaid outfits, only in this first page of your blog there are three, and they are all amazing! I am rather envious of all these beauties and your snow too!
Are you to Europe now? The dull mild weather is boring me, it looks like spring is coming soon and I wish Winter stayed longer, I mean as if we can call this a winter...
