"Ciphers and Constellations, in Love with a Woman," by Joan Miró

Living in a place where February, though perhaps still chilly, tends to be sunny and bright, I've been seized with a desire to wear colour, and also white. As various people have noted, I'm on a real red kick at the moment, which I'm continuing with these endlessly tomato-hued tights. The brights and whites of this outfit were more than a little inspired by a trip to the Miró Foundation the day before. The shining white building that houses the master surrealist's work interacts with the blue Mediterranean sky in a way that's more than a little reminiscent of some of his works. I've always loved how much joy can be contained in his splashes of red, yellow and blue on white. There's also a really good exhibition on at the gallery until next month, relating Miró's works to the context of the Spanish Civil war and his rural Catalan roots.
We bought posters of the work below... and early piece and a bit different from his most celebrated style, but so representative of the countryside around Barcelona...

I love Miro! And of course your outfit.
ReplyDeleteHehe, then I shall pack you off to the exhibition!
ReplyDeletethe red kick is working for you :) They contrast so wonderfully with your pretty white dress.
ReplyDeleteI really like how the orange/red of the tights really pops against the white. There is something really fresh and spring like about the combination. I visited the Miro museum when I was last in Barcelona, and loved it and the surrounding park if I remember correctly!
ReplyDeleteI love those shoes and the tights :)
ReplyDeleteThe shoes & tights are amazing!!! Paired with that white dress too, it looks stunning on you! :)
ReplyDeleteMiró has extraordinary pieces! I'm loving that you're loving red, looks gorge on you!

These are beautiful dramatic photos. The Miro poster you purchased is very different from any of his other work I've seen.

The detail in the Miro poster you purchased is amazing. There's always so much to absorb in his works. And, inspiration too! I love this dress with tomato red tights :)

ReplyDeleteLove the white dress & red stockings. Great combo.
ReplyDelete"I'm half-sick of shadows" - also the title of the new Flavia DeLuce mystery. You know I'm a sucker for those books. :-)

These photos are so wonderful. And I love the outfit as well! The red and white combination is delightful. It's funny though -the chilly february weather has me leaning toward darker colors. I should start embracing brighter colors though!
ReplyDeleteI remember studying Miro in high school - we were studying Spanish artists. My friends' group picked Miro and they had to do a reproduction of one of his works...it was a fun project! I'm not normally too big on abstract art, but Miro's stuff is pretty awesome. Also awesome - those tights!

such a wonderful dress!
ReplyDeleteThe mix of tweed, while and red in this outfit is great, I love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd I still kick myself for being too late to get the Miró museum (or house/exhibition? can't remember) open, and blamed my friends for it all the time until flying back to Portugal when I was in Barcelona! haha
I love this so much!! That orange color looks really good on you!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I went to a Miro exhibition at the Tate Modern last year and I learned so much! I loved learning how the war affected his work, how the chaos crept in. I wish I'd bought some posters, too!
ReplyDeletei feel like i could spend hours at a surrealist exhibition. i've always been more drawn to abstract expressionism, but there is so much to going on in surrealist paintings--so much to see and (attempt to) analyze. i really love the painting of the farm above--it's amazing.
ReplyDeletealso, i might take you up on that offer to read my novel ;)
I'm really a fan of your colored tights! You're giving me good ideas :)
ReplyDeleteI love this combo! Tweedy winter with bright red springy-ness and lacy white summer. Amazing.
ReplyDeletenice pix n poses..loving it
ReplyDeleteHaha I feel the same way about the sunny weather, I hope this silly inbetween weeks will pass quickly.
ReplyDeleteThe dress is really lovely, I can see how the outfit is inspired by the Fundació Miró, such a beautiful builing.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore your white dress, and then those pretty red tights just make the white pop.
