low-key

I just spent a lovely relaxing weekend in Bonn. It rained a bit, but I didn't mind since I find that rain makes it acceptable to spend most of Saturday in your pyjamas, taking naps at 2 pm and reading. I'm the type who, if I sleep in past 9:30 on the weekend, is then in a black mood for several hours thinking of the wasted time. So napping to the sound of rain pattering against the window was highly unusual and just perfect.

Albert is renting an attic room in a flat, and I love sitting on the sofa looking out at the sky. I've always wanted to live in an attic, it appeals to the Victorian orphan in me, and this one fits the bill, except for some really nasty nudes the landlady saw fit to decorate with. Including an enormous paper maché one right outside the door that is pretty dangerous on night-time fridge-raiding rambles.

Anyway, these pictures were taken after all the napping, when we popped out to the local Beer Garden on the Rhine (I love life in this town). I took my new favourite dress for a spin, although it's not showing to its full potential underneath the sweater. Still, there will be several more occasions to bring it out when the weather heats up.

  1. you look very sweet in this outfit, gotta love a peter pan collar. Oh and I am the same way with sleeping in. I would much rather wake up early then stay out all night

  2. Gorgeous! Well of course, what else could a peter pan collar be described as? Love the detail at the hem too :)

Made me giggle, on weekends I can't get myself out of bed but if I am not up by nine I fall into a deep wasted-time grump. My husband is scared to wake me. Or not to. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. ;)

  3. @Stef: Haha, we're the same. That moment when they tell you it's a quarter to eleven and you can start to feel smoke coming out of your ears.... ; D

  5. haha dangerous nudes!! ps i'm totally the same way about being scared of the dark when k is out of town (though not when i lived alone). tres weird. i have to run by the hall mirror without looking in it because i was traumatized by a scary story involving mirrors when i was a kid. sometimes i can't even look in the bathroom mirror at night when i'm brushing my teeth alone in the apartment! man, i'm too weird. i also get angry when i sleep past 9 on weekends... i used to love sleeping in but now that i work 9-5 all week i feel like i can't waste a second of my free time.

anyway, i ADORE this outfit. red+blue are such great colors and the little rocking horse is such a sweet touch. love it.

  9. I'm glad your inner Victorian orphan has been appeased by Albert's attic apartment. Wow, that alliteration came out of nowhere! Anyway, I'm loving everything about this outfit. The colors are gorgeous and I'm fairly certain that your espadrilles are the envy of all others.

Re: Longfellow. Despite his reputation as a hack, I find the sweet placidity in his poems comforting. Which, I suppose, makes me fuel for the critics' fires. Oh how well my tastes would have fit in with the mid-nineteenth century masses! ;)

  10. Again, oh Albert is such a waaaaay better photographer than me! ;) And can't tell you enough how much I adore this look, perfect colour combination and items combination.
You're lucky that at least you can spend some time living in an attic, so parisian dream ;)

  11. You look great in this. Red is definitely your color. I'm glad I'm not the only one who usually hates sleeping in because it seems like such a waste of time. It just irks me! I wish it didn't, because it would be so relaxing, but I just can't seem to justify it. UNLESS it's raining or snowing really hard. ;)

  15. I always love the bits you write, they really appeal to my imagination :) attics have always been my thing too, especially as a kid. They just feel different from other places in the house, like there's secrets about, but in a calm and quiet way :) and napping on a rainy day is <3
