Sorry for posting overload this week. I have so many things lined up... it's either feast or famine in my archives!

Anyway, at this time last year I was living in Mexico (and at this time the year before, though a different city). I really enjoyed my time there overall, and recently discovering Dusana's blog (she just got back) has made me a bit nostalgic. Also, I realized I'd bought this dress at a street market the day before I left and had never gotten a chance to wear it/completely forgotten about it.

I never bought as many beautiful embroidered blouses as I meant to in Mexico. By and large, the stuff for sale in the city wasn't great. One time, Albert and I went to this little mountain village that was very picturesque and famous for it's embroidered blouses. I had big plans to stock up. But then our beetle fell into an enormous pothole on the mountain road which destroyed two tires. We managed to roll downhill to the nearest village (after discovering our spare tire was flat, haha) and get them replaced. But they only took cash, which pretty much wiped out most of the cash we'd brought. And they definitely weren't taking Visa in that village! So I had to content myself with some clearly sub-par $6 blouses instead of splashing out the big bucks ($20) on something really special. C'est la vie. ; ( I guess I'll just have to go back some day!

P.S. Gratuitous beetle shot. I loved it, and it's the only time I've ever been or am likely to be a car owner (sort of). This was not on the occasion of the tires, however. Oh, also, our beetle was from 2001 (they only stopped making the old kind in Mexico in 2002)!

    Jeje, no mames, wey!
    "Albert and I" is correct at the beginning of a sentence. You can use "Albert and me" at the end of a sentence sometimes. Like "bring the chocolate to Albert and me." Although I don't know why you'd say that, particularly! ; )

    Cute dress!! That story about the car losing it's tires before a big shopping thrift is kinda depressing though. I have fears of that sometimes:) And I'm so jealous that you had a old beetle! I want one so bad, but they're pretty terrible on gas mileage.

    @Daily Fashionista: I think the beetle was pretty good. It was actually new (from 2001, I think). They didn't stop making the old style in Mexico until recently. I wish they hadn't stopped at all.

    What a great car!! The hubs and I were just talking about what car we wanted to take on as a project (to rebuild from the ground up), and a Beetle was put on the list as they are such fun little cars (and easy on gas too!). I dislike the new style, but give me a little Beetle from the 60's and I'd be tickled pink. :-) Bummer about losing the money to tires instead of shirts - you certainly must go back in the future. :-)

    My first car was a 1966 Beetle. I learned to drive on it and thought it was cute. You won't believe this but, in an effort to make it snazzy, I stapled white shag carpeting to the interior walls and ceiling of the car. Hey, I was a teenager!

    Darling dress! I kinda love it when you buy something, completely forget about it, and then find it again after forever. It's sorta fun, haha. :)

    Yea, I was gonna just keep saving for a dream house but my friend really wants to move out and she said its just for a year (unless we want to stay longer), so then I can go back home and save for my dream house again, it will be a nice little adventure, haha.

    Yes, I remember seeing beetles everywhere in Mexico. This red one is quite a beauty... I'm loving all your posts by the way. Sorry to hear your big plans didn't work out but this dress is quite cute...you've inspired me to dig for the blouse i bought down in chiapas.

    Aww, I'm sorry that happened with your car, but the dress you bought is quite pretty! I saw a turquoise embroidered dress in Goodwill the other day in great condition and now I'm thinking I should have snapped it up...maybe it will still be there if I go back. Your bubbly red beetle was so cute!

    I love it! Latin American textiles are some of my favorites. Last year when we traveled Guatemala and Honduras, I bought so many lovely dresses and blouses to add to my collection. Sad to hear about the unfortunate Beetle accident though. Beautiful!! xx

    I adore this mexican look so much! The necklace is so unique and fabulous! I love the story too, although it didn't end as expected!

    Ramiro's mother is from Mexico (Acapulo) and I so hope to be able to life there some days, we have some plans to go spend a good 6 months in a few years when we start our family and I can't wait!

    nothing beats ethnic embriodery. this is wonderful number and nicely adorned with that unique necklace. the skull tops it off nicely :) my parents are form central america and I remember at one point wearing a dress kind of like this one.

    haha I'm a huuuuge fan of beetles, they call them ugly ducklings around here aside from beetles :D and I really want to go to mexico one day, the colorful culture really appeals to me.

    lovely lady, you already know I love this outfit! In response to your question, I am living in Michigan for the summer for a research fellowship I won through the state of California. I am working at the University of Michigan in the joint department of social and personality psychology and women's studies. I am specifically studying stigmatized relationships and it relations to gender and sexuality. The main project I worked on looks at casual sex acceptance rates and emotional reactions. Past research found that women were less likely to accept casual sex offers. However, once we mediated for stigma and the proposed sexual capabilities of the proposer, these difference "went away" if you will. I am applying to the joint phD program in the Fall so hopefully I get in! xx
