London
So... finally I'm posting a few pictures of London. Not an area of London I spend much time in honestly, except when I get kettled in student protests. This however was a beautiful day and evening. The reality here is that usually the light is pretty dreary, and the days when it isn't don't tend to coincide with the weekend. ; ) I'm going to aim to be a bit more camera-happy again though. London is a beautiful city, and chaotic, and hard work, and full of surprising quiet corners. I don't feel at all like I take enough advantage of being here (partly because it's so expensive) but I want to try to see and do more. As Samuel Johnson said, "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life."

Lovely!
Is that the Thames?
Love the pics, looks so charming, I haven't had the chance to get to London yet! I used to live in Beijing- new year there is crazy, I experienced a few in my time, non stop fireworks anywhere and everywhere for days!!
It looks so different from how I always imagine London. (Cones from watching too much Sherlock Holmes. :D) I would love to go to London some day. <3
You ought to visit Chicago some day. It is amazing. I think it's the greatest city in the world (not that I've seen many others and am not biased. *winks*).

@NRIGirl: Yup, that's the Thames!
you make london look so lovely, but you've also touched on a few of the reasons why it doesn't entirely appeal to me (so expensive, dreary light, hard work). still, i'm sure i would love living there as much as any large city--i certainly wouldn't say i'm quite tired of life! ;)
LOVE these photos! I'm soo excited for my trip to London this summer...AHHHH XD

the moodiness of the first photo is wonderful. These glimpses of London in evening totally change my picture of the place. In my mind it is sort of an old Seattle. :)
What gorgeous photos! You're giving me some serious wanderlust!
Wow! beautiful pictures, you are so lucky and you were looking good :)
See you!
How I miss London! Great shots!
these are beautiful shots! not to mention, you look gorgeous as always.
i had a christmas time trip to london planned this winter and it had to be canceled because of the snow! i hope to get there one day soon.
I've been dreaming of London since I was little, I'm fond by all the iconic places, but I'm so sure there are more amazing things to see! Lovely shots!

the pictures are just terrific. the lighting illuminating the buildings. love the picture with you and the bus right in the backgroud
The pictues are sooo amazing! the one with you on the brigde is sooo cool! Have a great weekend! While North of Mexico is having the worst winter climate on it's history Guadalajara is just as always 25°C!!! thank god!
Oh my how I miss London :/ still don't know when I'll be going... But I'm dreading the cold! We had 21ºC today! I just wanted to go to the beach but if I did that the locals would think I was crazy haha!
I know what I asked you! When will you go to Barcelona? :)
The streets and lights of London look very beautiful!
And for the David Usher admirer in you....

your photos are brilliant. I had a friend who visited London and she said it was amazing but also very expensive. I hope you catch a few more good weather weekends
That last photo is just beautiful. Makes me want to be instantly transported to London with loads of money to stay in a nice hotel and see all the sites and all that good stuff. Instead I'll just enjoy your pictures and hope that you have a cuppa for me.
That fourth photo of you may just be my favorite. Something about your silhouette against the city and the look on your face!
I love that quote by Jackson-- someday, I'll see for myself.. And by someday, I mean come Grad school. :)
You are lovely.
Ahhh these photos are making me so excited for my Euro trip! I've been booking places to stay today and am just about to start researching Paris and London. As soon as I know the dates of when I'll be in London I'm letting you know!! :)
xx
These are such beautiful shots Emily. I adore London and, yes, it's utterly impossible to tire of it.

I love London :D
Albert surely takes some spectacular photos! I really like the sixth one down of Parliament all lit up. The clouds in the sky are so perfectly placed and complimentary to the rest of the scene.
these are so so pretty. I left my heart there so seeing pictures always makes me excited :)
@Emily: Yes, we spent ages placing those clouds, Hehe. ; D
I'll pass on your compliment however. Albert and I have both gotten much more interested in photography as a result of this blog!
ahh so beautiful. :) i'd love to visit london. it must have been exciting!

These pictures are so stunning, I love London, its my favorite city. It is expensive, but so so so gorgeous and fun (so much more so than NYC in my opinion). The one of you with the doubledecker in the background is so good!
Such pretty pictures! I love the one of you on the bridge. I would love to go to London. Someday I'll get there!
Love the second and last pictures, methinks!
yea, my first coat went on really stripey but then after that it was good :)
so, so pretty. that last picture should be a postcard! i only spend 2 days in london, but i'd love to go back for a week or so.
gorgeous pics. thanks for sharing!
I have always loved the silhouette of the parliament building. It's gorgeous :) London is one of my favorite cities by far!!!!
So gorgeous!
I just saw your Kettle Full Of Students post and had to share the picture of the 'Dobby died for this?' sign with a guyfriend of mine who actually cried when he read about Dobby's death!
Anyway, these are very nice pictures, I love going to London.

These are beautiful--I'm so jealous! One of these days I have to get off this continent... :D
I didn't know Swirl only shipped to the US--how lame! Dear Creatures is having a pretty big sale on their site right now, though, and I'm sure they ship internationally. I just bought myself a chambray romper and a plaid shirt to get me through the summer. :D
I love London so much, it's the best city in england. i did a post like this a while back too :). It's so inspiring there, isn't it?
nesha,

Lovely shots :)
I've got an old plastic tripod as a back up for my heavy one and when I am traveling abroad I'll usually opt for the lightweight too. You should be able to give it a little extra stability in a pinch by hanging a heavy bag from it. Some have a hook on the bottom of the middle column to make this easier but I usually just wind the strap of a weighty bag around the tripod and let it hang down the middle when the wind fresehens up :)
Don't you dare reduce the number of images on your blog - yours are so varied I wouldn't want to miss any of them :)
Getting your auto focus to co-operate on a large aperture (small depth-of-field/in-focus area) when you're standing of centre too is quite hard. I've been getting better results with a remote than with the self timer but auto focus can be a real pain in the butt. I'll compile some details on depth of field/focus in a post soon.
Have a great start to the week!
Oooh, London! Nice shots :)
Re focusing: Use something to mark where you'll be standing in the picture (a teddy bear, a tree branch, a shoe, something in the environment...) and set the focus on that, then recompose the shot (if you don't want to be in the centre of it), press the shutter button and run to your marked spot.
London is high on my list of cities to travel to. That ferris wheel is so magical. You're inspiring me to take more photos of nyc.
AAAAh-mazing photos. I do believe the last one got my heart skipping a beat, it's so beautiful.
Oh my oh my, these pictures are beyond lovely! London is such an incredibly beautiful and romantic looking city... I hope to visit there someday!
Thank you so much for dropping by my blog :)
These pics are so beautiful and I think your words really made me feel excited about London. Love the pic with the bus in the background.
