epic weekend!
I don't tend to post a lot of party pictures, mainly because low light and a drunkish photographer (guilty, guilty) don't necessarily make for a lot of kodak moments. But my first weekend based (back) in Barcelona was completely epic, so it deserves a look-in. I could post pictures of me looking vacantly romantic in pink, and I will later, but I was a bit of a sleep deprived greaseball for most of the last forty-eight hours, and that was obviously more fun. ; D
On Friday I went to Primavera Sound, a big music festival that happens in late spring every year. I basically landed from London, dropped my suitcases, and rushed over there, trying to get in to see Sufjan Stevens. It was impossible, since the bastard was playing a closed arena and I was pretty mad. Elitist son ^$ @ $%*%^. Sorry. I love Sufjan, I saw him in 2004 and again in 2005, but closed concerts have no place in a festival. Rant over. Anyway, then I was on my own for 6 hours until Albert landed, so I wandered around, drank beer and saw all sorts of acts, from M. Ward to some country singer to The Fiery Furnaces to The National. I'd never heard of the last group until now, but they were awwwwwesome. I was in a happy anthemic dancy coma.
Anyway, Albert arrived, we saw Belle and Sebastian, some electronic thing, I ate a "jam and liquor" crepe, we drank Jaegermeister and then Pulp played and I literally fell asleep on my feet as I'd been on the road for 20 hours, but Jarvis Cocker was awesome and dedicated "Common People" to all the peaceful protesters in Plaça Catalunya who had been attacked by police earlier that day. We finally got home at 4 in the morning, which is pretty reasonable by Barcelona standards, but I guess I'm old now.
On Saturday, Barcelona beat ManU in the Champions League final! I felt a bit traitorous supporting Barça, since my dad's a life long ManU supporter, but really, the better team won. After watching the game with some friends from Manchester (sorry, guys) we dropped in to Plaça Catalunya, where the party of the year was happening. Every car was beeping it's horn full blast, and everyone in the city was out with their Barça flags. Albert commented that "since the Catalan national team isn't allowed to compete, this is our version of winning the World Cup." Anyway, I'm sure most of you tuned out a while ago, but I love football! This time we got home at a very respectable 3 am.
A family affair
Hehe, don't show my dad this picture!
Thanks for bearing with me! Now, if you'll excuse me, it's time for bed!

VISCA BARÇA :)
Me encanta tu entrada
Sounds like a way to make an entrance back into a city. I've never heard of that festival, sounds good! And well done for staying up so long. Pretty jealous you saw pulp as well.
Sounds like a restless weekend of fun :D
I am counting the days, hours and seconds until I get to join masses of unwashed festival goers. Five days of partying and the prospect of communal showers..
@Emily,
Nice pix. I cannot stop laughing at your narration especially - 'don't show dad.' caption
haha party hardy! loving that goofy pic of you, you look like so much fun :)
My boyfriend got up at 4am yesterday to watch that game! The poor thing... he supports ManU, so was not just dissappointed, but tired all day! But he actually agreed with your assesment - Barcalona were simply the better team.
Glad your first day in Barcelona was so much fun!
Hahha, I LOVE the photo of you looking stoked on the street. It looks like you had an awesome time! :)
HAha this looks like so much fun! I love the shot of you in the street :p

Jajaja no veo motivos para que tu padre no crea que su hija se ve adorable en esa foto ;)
QUe emocionante todo! se nota que la pasaste increible!
Nos vemos :)
What a rush! The festival sounds amazing (I agree, closed concerts at a festival are like having a candy shop next to a gym), and I'm glad you had so much fun.
You must have slept like a baby that night! xo
I love this post!! It makes me think of my friend romping around Barcelona right now:) She moved back in October.
Talk about whirlwind weekend fun! Sleep is for the weak, right? ;)
Ugh, so not cool about Sufjan playing a closed set. But! M. Ward! I'd love to see him live someday. And the lead singer of The National has such a captivating voice, don't you think?
This looks like such a great time! I'm so glad it's festival season.

The craziest time I've had is probably the Lolapalooza (spellin?) in Chicago two years ago. Apparently it's some huge festival in the states but I had no idea back then. I just went there because there were a bunch of bright lights and screaming! I got five free cold drinks, though, so it was pretty awesome :D
Glad you had fun. Most Americans won't understand your soccer reference, but I think Lionel Messi is perhaps the best player of our time.
pretty much, I heart the picture you're not showing your dad.
When I was in Paris I stayed up till 5 am. I was proud of myself. haha.
Yay for the ManU, so happy about that! Looks like the best way to spend the weekend back to Barcelona, have a lovely week ahead!
Cess O. <3 The Outfit Diaries
Lovely concert!! And you look great! (gorgeous dress!).
I watched the game with g. and friends and I was with Barcelona too (of course!). Yay!!
Those events in Spain are so disgraceful and make me so sad... (and a little mad too...). We also have similar peaceful riots after Spain started a week ago (which is very hopeful!). Kisses :)
@Margaret: Five free drinks! That definitely sounds like a good night. My damn drinks were €4 each!
@Shybiker: Messi is amazing, but it's the team playing together that really makes the magic!
What an intense weekend! Yes, Spanish Revolution in Plaça Catalunya, Jarvis Cocker in Primavera Sound Festival (I love Pulp!), Barça wins and Shakira dances with the players in her concert... Still recovering from the weekend!!!

what is this dream concert? national, belle and sebastien AND pulp?? really, their song separations- one of my favourite!
glad to know you had such a nice time- on the footbal part , yes, I was one of those who got tuned out :P
i think I was one of the few in Manchester not to watch it!
have a great week! :)
Wow, it sounds and looks like you had a blast! xx
Hehe! Sounds like it was a fun time. People over here went crazy for that final as well. I just got out of a movie theatre when I heard the entire mall screaming. I realised that they were watching that game!
Anthea,
Embracing Style
I was at Primavera Sound!Primavera Sound is always a good place to be. I love the ambiance and the people.
Btw, Pulp were amazing! I think Jarvis was so nice to dedicate "common people" to the "spanish revolution".
Ahh seems like you got back fully loaded! ;) Glad you had such a nice time! And I love the goof picture of you!!
Now about Barça, congrats! My friend living there were very happy but after a while said, "enough of partying in the streets", the noise was too much! ;)
Pulp were really good! It's a shame I was basically about to die at that point!
@Vilaine Fille: Have you heard the Catalan version of Common People or "La gent normal" by Manel? I love it!
@Raquel: It's reasonably quiet where I live, but there were still rockets going off last night... hopefully everyone has used up all their energy and are nursing their hangovers today!
freak out ! have wonderful days ahead!
Ahhhh! that looks like so much fun. super epic. yes!!
x
Such a great Weekend! that music festival looks amazing! and I wanted ManU to win because of Mexican player Chicharito but I must admit Barcelona played like gods in heaven sooo as you said the best team won!!!
Looks like so much fun!!
I'm from New Zealand but we watched the game too and you'll be happy to know we were also cheering for Barcelona! So happy they won.
Also you're so lucky to be able to see amazing live acts like that, they hardly ever come to our corner of the world :(
Sounds like a lot of fun :) I love your blod header.
xx
haha, thats exactly how I think abut it XD If my blog gets anonymous mean comments i must be doing something right ;)
Haha, I would be mad about the Sufjan situation too! I love that guy<3
And what a crazy weekend to be in Barcelona! That soccer game was crazyy!

Haha oh my god. Rather amazing, you're adorable. x hivenn
I definitely know what you mean about the hassle in taking party pictures! Although I love parties and would enjoy sharing them with everyone in the blogosphere, it's so difficult to catch the moment as is. The funny thing is, I also just posted about a party I enjoyed over the weekend (though it wasn't quite as epic as your amazing weekend!). This is a great post full of energy and life. It's so inspiring!
OMG!!!!!
I wish I was in Barcelona, celebrating. I had to watch it on TV and when they won well lets just say my Dad went psycho here (he is a big fan of Barca)
Wow, being in Barcelona for this must have been insane! I was in Alicante when Spain won the Eurocup and that was sure crazy enough, I can’t even imagine this! How cool that it was the same weekend as the music festival! I am SO jealous you got to see Belle & Sebastian and am going to check out some of these bands I haven’t heard of, thanks!
& thanks for your comment on my blog; it’s so cool that you lived in Puebla! How long did you travel around for? Did you teach English during this time?
