striking a pose

Photobucket

Photobucket

So... I'm sure all my fellow personal style bloggers have had those days, and those photoshoots. Suddenly your location seems less magical, your outfit unremarkable, and there's a small cluster of Germans watching you curiously and intently from about 10 feet away. Well, maybe the last one has limited application. To cut a long story short, I was feeling shy.

So clearly the only solution was to take Albert's advice when he said "models don't look shy. They don't try and look pleasant for the camera. You should make some crazy model faces." Yesh. So all I'm saying is, don't judge me! On the plus side, I felt way better, and my uninvited audience eventually left, scratching their heads.

Photos by Albert (who couldn't keep a straight face in his own "model poses"). Everything I'm wearing is second hand in one way or another

I love the faces! I wish bloggers would play with more interesting poses and expressions. We tend to use a conventional default and it gets boring. Kudos for experimenting.

Haha I love this :D
And yayyy, that's totally how I was planning to wear my sweater like that when I got it! :)

@Emily,

I am with Albert. Models are not shy. But honestly you don't appear to be a shy person...

Are these pictures with SLR camera on an overcast day?

There is book called 'How to pose'..I never read it but just saw the title...if you want to be a model...but I feel you will stick with academics

I completely understand the sentiment where locations seem less "magical". However, wherever you are looks very pretty! x

Love that sweater! Yes, love the looks too :)

Oh yes...gotta love the gawkers who get way to close. I'll need to try this tactic of making model faces next time...I always just give up and move somewhere else b/c I am so darn shy.
Both your outfit and pictures turned out lovely. I love the simplicity of your look. Very chic and summery. The faces are priceless:)

the model poses are quite striking ;) I know a thing or two about camera shyness, never having gone out of my room, this is what I fear a crowd giving me so stares! pretty dress the sweater is lovely with it.

I get plenty shy taking my photos in secluded spots. Strange. On the occasions that I take my photos in public my nerves are basically through the roof!

I like how cohesive the small polka dots on your dress and the round open knit of your sweater look together. And that particular shade of blue is quite lovely with the varying degrees of brown.

Hehehe...I love the model faces! The wind in your hair is also very "modelesque." Were you doing a hair toss in the third photo? Awesome.

I really like how the patterns of your dress and sweater work together and how you added the lighter blue (or possibly blueish gray?) belt.

I'm loving the fierce pout, though! :) I get really self-conscious about being in front of the camera, too. I almost prefer self-portraits but my tripod got busted in my suitcase. Ohh your hair looks great!

awww dude. I totally totally get that feeling. and then your flicking through the photos and that gets you bummed out too and you know you will never see those 10 germans every again but its sooo embarrassing.

I think you look adorable in these shots and your model poses. That wee knit top is devine, i found a yellow one the other day and its a little to bright, that nude it perfect

Finally I can see the photos! ;) stupid internet last night!
I think these are quite funny, I just wish I could e more like that in front of the camera. And you do look like an editorial model with your hair being blown by the wind ;)
I love that crochet/open knit top with the polkadot dress (it would also look great with your new espadrilles hehe).

I can claim a wee bit of native heritage. How much exactly I'm not sure. All I know is that the connection is on my paternal grandmother's side and supposedly it's to a tribe from New Hampshire (of which there were only two, it seems). I was just speaking with my dad the other day at how unfortunate it is that we don't know a lot about that side of the family. I suggested he track down some of his cousins and ASK, hehe.

Are those miniature pleats I spy on your dress? Whatever they are, the dress sure is pretty! P.s. I love your pout! Haha!

Are these photos with the new camera? I really love how they turned out. Well done with the model poses lady!

Kudos to Albert for taking these pics. Your outfit is sweet.

Those are good expressions and Albert is the best for telling you that! Also, and I couldn't make this up if I tried...I'm literally wearing the same outfit as you. Pics soon.

Oh dear, I know that feeling all too well! I get so self-conscious posing for pictures in public places, and I hate the funny looks people give me! rest assured you look lovely though.

After reading your post musing on the status of vintage in the blogging world, I thought you might be interested to read my second-most-recent post, called 'On Vintage'. ♥

Those days are the worst! It's so hard because nothing anyone says makes you feel like you look good, especially if you look through the pictures, hate them, then try to take more and they turn out worse! Better luck next time! xx. You still look gorgeous!
