"hell is the entire rest of eternity spent in fucking bruges"
The title is a quote from the 2008 movie In Bruges, which is a very dark comedy, (Ralph Fiennes' other pure evil role) and highly recommended. One of the central jokes is that the main character is sent to Bruges, in Belgium, to enjoy himself in the beautiful surroundings, but absolutely hates it.
Bruges is a very beautiful and well preserved Medieval Flemish city. I didn't hate it at all... but I have to say the weather was absolutely appalling the day we were there... probably the worst day of the whole summer, and between being soaked and miserable and spending much of the day hiding out in various pubs and shops to avoid the torrential rain, I can't say I have the fondest memories of it! I wish I could say we'd taken some beautiful pictures of it at least, but it simply poured as soon as we'd finished my outfit shots. Grrr. I imagine it would be magical on a frosty winter's day however.
This lovely dress has a story of it's own, and one that I'll tell you next time I wear it (very soon). Right, off to bed, my jet lag is making me incoherent again!
Damn tourists... the questionable joys of Europe in the summer...

the dress is a marvel of delicacy. Wish your day in Bruges had gone more to your liking.
Damn you look beautiful in that last photo. Your wee white dress is amazing. I've been searching for a simple linen lace dress all spring/summer and it seems you found it. Devine. Feeling you on the gloomy weather, after 6 years in Edinburgh the grey tea and a book afternoons loose their charm.
x
Even with the weather these photo's turned out gorgeous. It's a jaw dropping city. & I am in love with your shoes!
Beautiful dress, went to Brugues a few years ago when I stayed in Brussels it is a magical place at winter. The film is good too! x
what brings you to bruge? the pics of the tourists are hilarious. these photos are quite moody and the grey makes it romantic even though having to stay indoors to avoid the rain is pretty sucky. love your dress and last pic!
That was such a fun movie! I've wanted to go to Bruges ever since I saw it...
Your dress is so super lovely!
1. I'll have to rent said movie :)
2. God, that town is beautiful.
3. God, your dress is beautiful!
I watched that film recently, the dialogue is quite enjoyable in a dark way! And Ralph Fiennes... mm. Anyhow love the white dress! When I went to Bruges the weather was similar I recall. xx
I was lucky to visit Brugges during easter and the weather was much more enjoyable so it was impossible not to love a city with so much green and small streets and cute pubs!plus not so so many tourists either!
ps)I like how you did you hair!is it a kind of french braid?
pps)glad you had a safe journey back!
That dress is so stunning and you got some great shots (which must have been tricky with the nasty weather and all)
I quite enjoyed the film, pleasantly grumpy.
These are really gorgeous photos. And I really love your white lace panel dress <3
Cute photos, and the third one, I really really liked it, I think its my favorite photo of you. It is just something about your dress with those details, the shoes, the place, the background, the pose that makes me love it. Incredible!
And thanks for the movie tip, if I have any spare time in October (august and september is to busy for me to do much else then sleep on spare times) I will watch it!
beautiful! i love this :)

I LOVE that quote and that movie! The type of movie that makes you smile and think without being all up its own arse, haha
the weather is horrible but I SHALL NOT speak about it anymore, your dress is lovely!

I saw the film in theaters when it first came out and I LOVED it. Then I tried watching it again this year and found it horribly painful to watch and couldn't even finish it. Odd eh? I'm sorry your time in the city was dampened by the rain :(
I enjoyed that movie as much for the scenic backdrop as for the narrative drama. And you, of course, look lovely as usual. You never cease inspiring wanderlust in me. :)
Oooh! I want to go there, it looks so nice!!
and I LOVE your hair!!!
(I need to see that movie, Ralph Fiennes AND Clemence Poesy, haha <3 )

Cute outfit + quote from a great movie = perfection!
Ohh I love the white dress. It's such a bummer when it rains when you're ready to go on a walking adventure. I suppose pubs aren't bad either! xx
I'm so jealous of the beauty and history you are surrounded by every day! The tourists look insane though! I love the green cardi, it will be perfect for Fall.
obviously the best way to avoid rain :)
I've had that film in my dvr for quite some time. I need to finally watch it. The town looks very pretty despite all the tourists. Shame the weather didnt cooperate though.
Ooh lovely dress! I'm getting over my fear of white clothes, altho it doesn't stop me spilling food apparently... :)
I had a friend who did Erasmus in Bruges and she really liked it, I am curious to meet it! And don't worry, here it has been raining non stop today and yesterday I got soaked on my birthday day -.-
Anyway I do love this outfit of yours and can't wait to hear the story of your dress, that is absolutely beautiful!
PS: Hope you had a safe travel and that the jet lag is gone soon!
It looks so lush and damp there, and so beautiful. You better not bring that gorgeous dress to NY, cause I'll steal it ;) Hope your jet lag is subsiding soon.
I loved that film so much... it really made me want to see the city.
It was 43.89 C (or so says google about 111F) in Phoenix today so rainy weather sounds quite nice, although it sure does put a damper on travel, esp when it's cold too. You'd never guess from the pictures though, you look so happy and pretty in them! Good thing you beat the rain! It does look like a beautiful town.
The city looks beautiful and so you do!

beautiful snaps
As I have not seen In Bruges I wondered at your post title and what could be so bad about the city. Hehe. It's been on the ever-expanding films-to-see list for years, though.
I absolutely love the dress with this particular shade of green. So perfect.
I love that movie! Bruges (and Brussels, and the whole Belgium) are on my places-to-go list from long time. I hope to visit it soon! Love your delicate white dress, it's really cute :)
