moving day
I'm sad to think this may be my last post on the terrace of my flat. Mainly I'm just sad to be moving on before I really had a chance to enjoy its splendour in full summer. Barcelona summers are long and languorous and having a terrace to drink wine on is the height of goodness. And even though it's currently really cold, I still love watching dawn reflect on the upper reaches of the buildings around us, while the streets below are still in night.
Meanwhile, I'm loving this it-doesn't-count-as-a-purchase-since-I-neeeeeeded-clothes-for-a-job-interivew coat. It makes me feel a little boyish in silhouette, and I like the strong shouldered swish as I trample over American exchange students in the metro...
Speaking of which, if anyone's thinking of doing a Masters in Creative Writing, I've been spending some time with the people behind a really fantastic sounding one. It's run through an American University and is accredited, and most of the work (writing a novel or equivalent) is done by distance, meaning you could keep your job. But then there are bundles of courses in two-week blocks, once a year and then once for graduation, taking place in Dublin, Barcelona, Vienna and Bratislava. Anyway, I only wish I could take it myself, as I've been attending some free writing seminars this week from the director which have been really interesting...

That's a lovely coat, makes me wish for cool weather!!
Love the coat!
The classes sound interesting...
Where are you moving now?
What a gorgeous coat, it is perfection :D
And aww that is sad!! :( Take a picture at your favorite time of day and print it huge to put on a wall, then you can still see it every day ;)

For some years ago, I want to do a course in composition at Ateneu. But I always crash with the time availability problem.
And nice coat. I want to buy a similar jacket (a bit shorter than your coat).
Good luck with your new flat (if you are moving). xx
Very cute! Love this!
@Meg: That's a sweet idea! I have loads of photos from back when the weather was still nice!
I love the coat! Good luck with the interview!
that is a really classy & timeless coat. i'm sure it'll be stylish through the years (:

@Nina: awesome! I hope you have a wonderful time! I'm away for the weekend unfortunately. Oh... and bring coatssss, it's pretty chilly here at the moment!
that coat was completely necessary. So where are you off to this time :)
@Amber: I'm staying here, I'm just leaving my apartment. Everything is complete chaos!
I've always loved your writing :)
Besides the children's book, is there a novel in the works?
Love your coat!
Great blog, I'm your newest follower :)
Good luck with your move!

Oh yeah, I love the boyish cut for sure! I adore this whole ensemble, with my favorite blouse!!
Have a good move, I hope your next place is as lovely to you!

How interesting! Just this morning I had this random thought cross my mind - if Emily were to shop for a winter coat what she would pick - and here you are posing in your new coat!
Now, are you losing weight or you purposely picked a lose fitting one to grow in I wonder. Whatever the reason, it looks awesome.
Thank you for the tip on CW; I"ll check it out.
Good luck with your move. Can't wait to see where you are moving into...
I love the grey tones matched with those shoes!
:)
xx
great neutral colors on you, love the layering too
@NRIGirl: Neither losing nor gaining weight particularly. Due to the shape of the coat (narrow in the hips, whereas I'm kind of the opposite) it's a bit larger on top. But I think it's a reasonable compromise.
That is a lovely coat, you look very professional indeed.
It's really a pity about the terrace, where are you moving to? As you can imagine I live in Enric Granados. It is a lovely street indeed, we were lucky to find a cheap old flat but there's no heating and it really sucks these days.
Confession: I still love when clothing items swish. Coats, dresses, corduroys. Some things just never get old. You picked a fine coat, Emily! I hope it served you well on the job interview.
Emily, I love this look it has a "casual academic" feel to it. That coat really rocks lady. Moving can be such a hassle but you seem to do pretty well with a transient lifestyle. Good luck with the move and the writing process.
Great coat. Love the shoes too!
You're going to do an MFA? That's wonderful. That's the degree I hold...although I was in residence at the University of Montana. There's also an excellent workshop in Paris run by Rolf Potts, who is known primarily as a travel writer, a well-regarded one.
You are moving?! When did I miss this big news? And I can't believe you wake up before dawn... or at least I hope that's only been the case in late-sunrise winter months. Your comment about the American students made me laugh, just why I set about to avoid my classmates early on haha. Great coat.
