Whew! The end of an internet-banned long weekend. Well, I was still on the internet, I'm not going to lie, but to a lesser extent. Which is always a good thing. I went to visit Albert in Bonn, where these photos were taken, among the Roman markers that dot the streets of the Altstadt where we live. Unfortunately that's about all I can tell you about them, since the internet has not been forthcoming on the subject.

These somewhat ridiculous sunglasses are part of my summer of personal style discovery. I feel that since starting a blog I've both started to define what I like, and strayed from it, lured by all the possibilities for self-styling that I see everyday on other blogs. I'm making a real attempt to narrow my focus as summer wears on, mainly because I like summer dressing to be as hassle-free as possible. So far I've discovered that 1) headscarves are really my thing (I think it would be hats, but you can only fit so many hats in a suitcase) and 2) I like my eyewear on the eccentric side. I think it must be a family thing. My dad is a bit of a mad professor, and my mom celebrated finally needing reading glasses by getting various coloured ones with rhinestones at the corners... I say, if I don't look like a bug, an alien, or a 60s escapee, I'm clearly not having enough fun.

All your dresses are so cute and classic! I love the pattern and Peter Pan collar on this one. :)

I agree, headscarves are the bomdiggity. They're so convenient and they look amazing, no matter what kind of hair you have. Haha, I've been thinking about getting some crazy, cat-like, 60's sunglasses...I think you just gave me the last little nudge I needed to go for it! :)

haha crazy eyewear is TOTALLY my thing too, I feel like most normal sunglasses look stupid on me so I usually go for weird ones because they look so weird they look good! :D lusting over cat eye glasses atm but haven't found some to my liking yet. loving your espadrilles doll :)

I think crazy eyewear is every style blogger's thing. Really. I love big huge ones, which is bad because I have the smallest face ever. I ALWAYS look like a bug in sunglasses I think. Although I'd rather look like an alien or 60s escapee...

I like your headscarf. I like headscarves, too. I don't know how to go about tying them into my hairdo, though, which is really a shame, because yours looks fab.

I would love to start defining my style this summer. I feel like I keep buying things that I think I like, but then I end up feeling like they're not really "me," whatever that may be. I'm a big fan of eccentric eye wear as well (those sunglasses are fantastic, by the way) and I actually just tried the headscarf thing out today myself!
I love your dress, and you totally rock that headscarf! By the way, I've seriously been getting so much summer inspiration from your blog! So many great looks :)

Oh man did we seem to post similar stuff on the same days? ;) First the wall now similar shape dresses haha, too bad I don't have the yellow one anymore, but you know I really like yours!

Hm, I think I'm quite minimalist in the summer especially, a few minutes ago I was planning my outfit for tomorrow and ended up with white dress, plus black flat sandals and orange scarf. I would like to had a pair of my sunglasses too, but 1)they're at Madeira dn 2)I could only wear them while sunbathing or else I wouldn't see very well haha!

PS: You should have teach me how to tie the headscarf, maybe with shorter hair now will be easier since with long one I couldn't do it except on the ponytails.

You always take your pictures around the coolest scenery! I love these. You really rock the head scarf, & I think those glasses look fabulous on you! I want some super round John Lennon-ish ones, but I'm not sure if I can pull 'em off or not...

You look great with those eyecats, and totally nailed the turban look, of course the dress is pretty as always!

haha, i like your stance on sunnies -- when it comes to simple summer fashion, sometimes they are just what you need to make an outfit into a look.

I LOVE that painting on the garage! Haha it's a perfect backdrop for your photo. I'm warming up to head wraps after seeing your pics. Still don't know if I could ever wear one, but maybe someday!

Ohh it kills me not to have reliable Internet. P.S. I'm loving the shades + headscarf combo on you. You look wonderful! Also, that is such an adorable blue dress. xx

Sunglasses and scarves look great on you. I doubt you know this reference, but on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in the 1970's, Mary had a best friend Rhoda (played by Valerie Harper). Rhoda always wore headscarves, brightly-colored and wrapped in unusual ways. Your scarf-wearing reminds me of her a lot. Rhoda had a spinoff TV-show for a few seasons.

Tortoise shell cat eye sunglasses are #1 on my list of things to find this summer. I really like yours! While I'm all for big, ridiculous sunglasses, it can be hard sometimes finding a pair that's big but not so big that they'll eat my entire face, hehe.

You keep giving me blue polka dot dress envy when you post pictures of this dress. I have had zero luck finding anything remotely similar - cotton (I presume), a nice shade of blue and with small dots. Everything I encounter is synthetic and has something obnoxious about it.

and I'm not sure if u have a real profile in FB..:)

Those sunglasses really suit you! So I say be as eccentric as you like! And may I say, you are just looking more and more gorgeous with each blog post.

Haha I like your theory on the glasses - someone in the opticians picked my current ones and I love them, so I just trust others now! Love your pretty spotty dress :)

You look adorable and very 60s! I love seeing bloggers' styles evolve, and I hope that I can learn vicariously to define and hone my own style more. I'm certainly finding inspiration from your adorable look here!

I've been on a self-inflicted internet ban as well.. At first I felt guilty, but then it was nice!

Anywho, you're right. Headscarves are definitely your thing. Should we ever cross paths, you simply must teach me to tie one properly.

Emily said...

1. LOVE that dress
2. Can you teach me how to wear headscarves and not look like I'm trying way too hard?
3. Eccentric or not, those sunglasses are awesome and they go perfectly with your vintage-looking outfit
