the devil's in the details

I seem to be pretty neglectful of my blog this week. And I'm actually really happy about it. Summer has arrived to Barcelona and is working its magic; I've stopped caring much how I'm dressed (simple pretty dress and ridiculously broken Victorias and doing me fine). It doesn't even occur to me to enter shops; I float around in a sunny dream.

Nonetheless, for those who aren't currently going as scruffy-minimalist as me at the moment, I think the real key to summer dressing is in tiny details. The first picture, apart from being a simply gorgeous picture of Islabell and taken in Turkey (!jealous!) shows the simple effect of a striking nail polish. And a cute coffee cup. And I would kill to be that photogenic. I love Rebecca's minimalist but quirky necklace, and again, the nails.

I wish my hair would do this....

And I love that the detail of this hat is at the back.

What are your favourite details for elevating summer looks? (I so don't believe that fall and spring with all their layers are the best time for style by the way; I think summer is pretty much perfect).

Aya of Strawberry Koi is such a vintage dream. She actually lives in the same little town as I do. Running into her always makes for a great day!

Emily,

How and when did you take picture no.3?

Was it a sunny day? Did you turn on flash?

I'll have to say pretty nail polish and cute rings. :) Also it's the perfect time to wear flowers in your hair or anklet.

Love

Enjoy the sunshine lady...I'm doing the same! I'm a fan of fun mani/pedis in summer. I'm also a fan of flat leather sandals that are comfy and stylish. I was just thinking about all the accessories I brought to Barbados but barely wore because it was so hot I could barely handle clothes let alone a necklace but the heat here is more forgiving. Happy Weekend!

Definitely love the ease of summer wear. Simple one layer pieces make for a nice change.

Aya's hat is made by that little bow on the back. Gorgeous!

Glad to hear you're enjoying the summer weather! I always find dressing for summer a bit tricky because of the lack of layering to create interest, and generally I don't often reach for accessories. I suppose I should start changing that!

Summer seams so far away here in Australia! I am currently living in layers. I like the simplicity of dressing for summer, just put on a dress and some sandals and you are done!

Ahh, long time no talk! I like the (possibly) new layout/design! :) That first shot is super awesome too, wish I could have bangs like that. Hope all is well :).

I think pops of color and intricate detail in the designs really make summer a fun time to style. But I do love winter clothes and it seems like my favorite time of the year actually. haha

"I seem to be pretty neglectful of my blog this week. And I'm actually really happy about it." Me too! It's such a satisfying release. And, uh, I haven't had much to say anyway.

I think you've touched on all the details that fall into the summertime philosophy that "less is more."

P.S. So... you know that Mexican beach photo you post on your Tumblr today? I did a watercolor of nearly that exact same scene a few years back! My mother had taken a trip there and I absolutely loved her photos from Tulum, especially the rocky cliff and that sideways growing palm tree. Completely random, I know, but I felt the need to tell you for whatever reason.

Eep, you know I love detail shots, I find details so important that a blog post only benefits from them.
Hmm in Summer my favourite details are nail polish and ways to put the hair up or hair-dos, since I do wan to carry as less as possible with me. Even my favourite accessories, rings, are left behind!

That said, I love the pictures you chose!

I think you're right that the little details make summer outfits. And this reminds me - I need to paint my nails. ;-D

Thanks for sharing! I love that necklace of Rebbecca's - if only I could afford it. >.<
