1929

It's no secret that I've been going through an extra-strong 1920s kick this year. Maybe it has something to do with my own 20s winding down; I want to end them on a jazz-age worthy bang. A few months ago I read Barry Paris' biography of Louise Brooks and watched some of her classic German films, which inspired a sort of decadent frenzy in me (although the second half of the book read like more of a cautionary tale, and that had an effect too). I've never been a hardcore party girl, and frankly it's not my style, but I definitely feel a need these days to burn the candle at both ends, to not turn down that one-for-the-road drink, to go out on Monday (and Tuesday and Wednesday) night, to try new things. Preferably whilst wearing something a little bit reminiscent of the 1920s, like this Alexandra Grecco dress (April's splurge). My hair may not quite fit the decade I'm referencing--I'm just waiting for fall to chop a bunch of it off--but the building certainly does. These pictures were taken at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, designed by the German architect in 1929.

I also went on a 1920s kick (one of many to be very honest with you) not that long ago. I love your dress and photographs.
P.S. Strangely I have never seen a Louise Brooks film. Which one would you recommend?

Hmm, Pandora's Box is the most famous, but of the couple I saw, I think I preferred Diary of a Lost Girl. I plan to see more!

Really beautiful pictures. I love your dress! The 20's just encapsulate youth which is something we all desire to live up to. I think that is why it grabs the attention of so many of us (fashion lovers in particular). Really beautifully written post :) my favourite thing to write about on my blog are the different eras. My favourite being the 1930's!

LOVE this dress....i think, quite possibly, it's the most beautiful and perfect dress and it's definitely my favorite outfit post on your blog so far....

@Deppa: I find that dancing around like an idiot in front of an audience usually work for posing. ;)

@Norbyah: Isn't it? It's the type of dress I'd actually wear to my wedding if I planned to have one... Hope you're enjoying New York! (the dress was made there, actually).

Mies van der Rohe is my FAVORITE ever architect. And I'm just going to say this bc you know me IRL and won't get weird...YOURE SO FUCKING PRETTY. And your dress induces a bout of jealousy that runs mighty deep.
ALSO thank you so much for the book recommendation. Need some airplane reading!

haha going out on Mondays, Tuesdays, well actually every night sums up my first stint in Spain pretty well. Working at a pub and sipping wine all eve certainly didn't hurt either. But anyway, glad you're enjoying life (and looking adorable while doing so... ok actually I'm not really glad you are but you know what I mean ; ).

I just discovered your lovely blog and this post really caught my attention. You look perfect for the setting - a setting which looks a little bit like heaven to me! I'm a fan of Mies van der Rohe but sadly haven't seen any of his buildings in real life. I need to get myself over to the continent so I can get my own photographs in such idyllic locations! I just love the lines and the blue marbling and the perfectly placed statue... Sigh!
