picnics in the park

On Sunday, my outing was no further than the park directly behind my flat, armed with a blanket, chickpea salad sandwiches, shandies and books. My need to go out and enjoy weekends is almost pathological sometimes... I've always felt that time spent at home, unless you're with people you really like drinking tea or wine, is time wasted. However, I've been working 50 hours or so the last couple of weeks with one thing and another (including a new, more interesting, temporary job), plus bashing myself up in bizarre ways (tripping over suitcases and smashing my elbows springs to mind). Under the circumstances, an outing that required as little time spent getting there as possible was needed. It was so nice to lie on the grass, wonder at everyone in Barcelona seeming to have a French Bulldog, and read a few pages...

I think your comment about time spent inside minus great company being time wasted is going to be my new mantra..it's so true! This is the perfect picnic outfit and I absolutely love the picnic basket! I was straining my eyes to see what book you're reading but couldn't make it out. I'm always on the hunt for some good fiction recommendations so just a suggestion but if you ever feel like name dropping a few in a post it'd be great :) Also, congrats on the new more interesting part time job :)

Love this outfit!!
And sadly I'm a weekend time waster, but that's because I don't like going places myself...I feel weird XD But I need to break out of that habit :)
and ooh! I hope to hear about your more interesting job soon :)

One of the fun things about urban parks is seeing all the stylish people like yourself who use it!

@The Headless Mannequin: It's "Bel-Ami" by Guy de Maupassant. My dad gave it to me for Christmas, but I just started it recently. So far so good!

@A Closet Fashionista: It's editing and proofreading. Sadly it's only temporary!

@ZZ: aw, thanks. :)

days like this are my absolute favorite. in the summertime, even when it's sweltering, i can't help but feel antsy when bumming around the house.

Oh wow, 50 hours a week is insane! A picnic seems like a wonderful cure for lots of work. That first photo is so lovely!

Sounds lovely, you needed a break after 50h of work!

You remind me of Gwenyth Paltrow in Talented Mr. Ripley. You have that effortlessly chic vibe going on.

@Amber: Haha, that is exactly what I was going for! :D

I really like this, it has a very casual 'sportwear' (as it was then) 1950's kind of vibe. Beautiful skirt. I honestly check out where the nearest park/patch of grass etc is before I start working somewhere. I need to get outside during the working day, never mind the weekend! Congrats on the more interesting job too.

This is a perfect picnic skirt. It has taken me many years to teach myself to NOT work on my weekends, but I have yet to learn how to make something exciting happening EVERY weekend. Hope the elbows get to feeling better.

couldn't agree with you more. especially during the summer months. i love your little basket, it reminds me of the one Dorothy carried around...all you need is a gingham dress and the look is complete. your fresh white blouse looks great with your skirt.

What pretty pictures. They look like a magazine spread. Your skirt is a gorgeous color and your poses look so model-like.

This is outfit of the day for me. I love it. And I dearly want to go on a picnic, now - alas it is winter down under. :(

That sounds like a perfect picnic. Since we can see you in the picture we can assume you had company, which makes it doubly so.

Another weekend here! Let's make the best of it!

I can definitely understand your busy schedule but sometimes you just need to sit with a good book and catch your breath.

LOVE that skirt, LOVE those shoes (I just got some that are similar - in fact, I have them on right now), love the whole look and the whole day! Now I want to do nothing more than grab a blanket and a book and snuggle up somewhere. :-)

Congrats on the job, even if it's temporary!
I love that skirt and the whole picnic setup, looks like a great way to spend the day. Enjoy your weekend after so many hours of work :)

@Carrie: I wish it was the whole day! Just 1.5 hours more or less. Still, better than nothing!
