Ok, after saying I was back, my computer died (temporarily, it seems to be doing ok at the moment) and now it's getting ridiculous how old and unseasonal some of these pictures are, but I'm going to post them anyway.

These are from walks in Yorkshire with my family. My sister Morna and I were gearing up to do an 8 day chunk of the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain afterwards, so were trying to get our legs used to walking/break in our hiking boots in my case.

Every time I write about my dad's corner of the world I sound like a broken record but, in brief, the scenery is just my favourite ever, and I love rambling through the sparse but complex landscapes. My only complaint is the wind, which really takes a chunk out of you sometimes, but we lucked out weather-wise, not much rain and fairly pleasant temperatures. Actually, the last several times I've been to Yorkshire we've lucked out... I'm beginning to think all this complaining about the English weather is a conspiracy...

I love that sweater! And oy, I would be so depressed if my computer died! But that would probably be a good thing, as long as it didn't last forever ;)

Oh, these hills remind me of my beloved Montana. Have you ever visited that American state?

So, so beautiful! This is some of the most breathtaking scenery I have ever seen and now I must go there immediately.

Oh that countryside makes my heart happy! Totally my kind of scenery. Wish I was there now!

Hello! I'm a longtime reader and Canadian expat living in York! First off, I love your blog -- your photography is great, and I love reading your musings on food, fashion, living abroad and everything else in between! I had to comment on this entry because I agree completely -- the landscapes in Yorkshire (and England more generally), are so beautiful and underrated. I love going for walks in the countryside, climbing over turnstiles and walking through grassy fields that are often dotted with grazing sheep and their adorable lambs. There isn't anything else like it! Hope you enjoyed walking a portion of the Camino -- it's something I really hope to do eventually.

Rachel! That's great! To be honest I'm just as happy they're underrated. When I went to the West Country last year everything was beautiful but crawling with tourists and people with second homes. I hope Yorkshire will stay the way it is for a long time. :)

The camino was good fun. I did the last stretch, to arrive in Santiago, but if I do it again I'd start somewhere earlier but similar reasons... too many people along the last bit. A friend of mine did the French part last year and loved it.

I know that I sound like a broken record every time I tell you how much I enjoy your Yorkshire photos. The last one is especially breathtaking.

P.S. I hope to do some moorland rambling myself before the year is out. Some plans are in the works. I will email you soon :)

the scenery truly is stunning!! And I guess I answered my own question, so you all live in Canada but this is your dad's hometown? I'm seriously obsessed w/ how gorgeous this countryside is, truly exotic compared to the Phoenix desert! and pardon all my comment spam, clearly I am catching up. glad you could enjoy some wonderful family time and do the camino, always wanted to do that!
