messing about in boats

Although this looks like another bucolic day in the park, Raquel and I actually went to the Sherlock Holmes museum this day. We didn't go in (although I don't know why because I would have lovvvvved it, I have loved Sherlock Holmes since I was twelve) but we ogled the outside of the building (never mind that 221 Baker St. never actually existed) and toddled around the gift shop. And then moved over to Regent's Park, which was just around the corner, and where is was a beautiful afternoon, except for an occasional very chilly wind. England just doesn't 'get' summer sometimes.

I'm currently in packing purgatory. I'm relocating, at least temporarily to Barcelona on Friday, and packing is hell as usual. I never have problems packing for short trips and usually just travel with my mini carry on suitcase. But oh. my. god. I hate looking at all my stuff and wondering how on earth I've acquired so much in however long it's been, and trying to gauge without a scale whether my suitcase will be overweight, and if so, how overweight, and who should I leave my extra sweaters with in the meantime and when are they home and how will I get the *&%&%^^# box to them... this is the unglamorous side of living abroad, peeps.

So I'll leave you with some more park pictures...

You have the topshop dress!!!! I've seen a couple ladys wear that and almost died. The print! Ahh. You look adorable, i love your mint trainers.

Moving around is such a pain..I've settled now for 3 years and i'm only just getting used to accumulating stuff....like nice blankets etc. I'm the oposite to a hoarder, i get anxious when I have too much stuff.

x

p.s. you say my name isla (like island without the "nd") and bell (like a bell) soooo islabell.

I adore your dress! I go crazy for anything nautical and it even has boats on it!

You are moving around so much! Crazy! How come?

That dress is adorable and I love how you styled it. When it comes to packing I'm really horrible, I always end up having to ship boxes home or leaving them with friends. It's really amazing how much you accumilate in very little (or long) time. So good luck to you!

Ohmygoodness that dress. Its like following me around blogland. I love it with your bright colored shoes and sweater here. That sounds really stressful about the packing. I would have a really hard time with that but you always look so nice and put together its crazy that you've just got a bag. You should do a packing post! Teach people to pack smart :) Hope all goes well and sorry for the ramble its 6am here.

@Kallie: I could definitely do a two week vacation packing post, but I'm currently loathing the sight of my big suitcase.

@Vanessa: I was studying in London this year but I'm finding it too expensive at the moment so am going to stay at my boyfriend's in Barcelona. ; )

ewww sorry about your packing conundrum, that is really annoying. BUT BARCELONA!!! JEALOUS!

Nice Photographs. I like It. :)
Welcome Back (welcome back is correct?) to Barcelona. Get ready for pure summer, It's already here. Oh my god, I hate Mediterranean summer, It overhelms me.

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Xavi: I love the Mediterranean summer, at least until August. But my winter sweaters are stressing me out... where can I put them? ; D

I love way the boat pattern on your dress links in with the water. Enjoy Barcelona, it is one of my favourite cities and I could definitely live there.

A solution is packing by mail...
Well I don't know. :-|

Your dress is the happiest thing I've ever seen! Little sail boats pittering along the dress is so cute. Good luck with all the packing:) That is a daunting task.

That dress is so cute, it kills me! Hehe, I know I am being a bit dramatic. I just love dresses.

Good luck with the packing, I'd be in the exact same panic if I were you!

Sherlock Holmes Museum?!?!? Yet one more reason for me to spend more than 8 hours in London (a layover on the way to Africa). Oh my goodness, the thought of such a thing makes me happy - you know how nuts I go over Agatha Christie, and Sherlock is pretty much the same. Interestingly enough, I think I was about 11 or 12 when I first read those books and have loved him every since. But as I recall, that's how I got stuck on your blog in the first place - a Sherlock Homles coat. :-) But enough about that - I so feel your pain of packing!!!! We moved every 2-5 months when we lived overseas and had to get everything in 2-4 suitcases for 2 people and it. was. a. nightmare. Best of luck and happy moving!

You travel more than anyone I know. And I like when people use cool words like bucolic. The pictures are pretty.

Great post Emily..I'm an ardent fan of Sherlock Holmes and I don't have exact calculation of how many times had i read all of the stories..visiting the Sherlock Holmes museum, 221 B Baker Street, and Reichenbach Waterfalls is always my dream..

Oh man I love this dress but totally resisted buying cause I keep seeing it everywhere! The wind chill seems to be an annoyingly British thing, if it wasn't for that it would be quite pleasant living here! :)

Caitlin Rose said...

Oh that print is just darling.

Katie Burry said...

Cute reference to The Wind in the Willows! I love your dress!! It's darling!

Oh how I envy you!! My big sister and I are Sherlock Holmes fanatics and would absolutely love to go to the Sherlock Holmes museum!! Did you ever watch the BBC mini-series, Sherlock? They put Sherlock and Watson in modern day London. It is, in my opinion, the best Sherlock Holmes adaption ever made. <3 Bennedict Cumberbatch is a genius - and so is Mark Gratis and Stephen Moffat. /fan girl ramble

That dress is so incredibly darling and adorable in every humanly possible way. :) Yeah, I'm an awful packer for just weekend things, and I can't imagine having to pack as often as you do...I'd probably have some sort of breakdown, haha.

You look adorable! I love the print on your dress & your sneakers are great. These pictures make me miss London so much.. The last week I was there I spent the most time on Baker St, because my best friend was going to school in Regents. I walked past the Sherlock Holmes museum everyday but never went in! That park is so lovely.

Packing is such a hassle. :( Wishing you luck on cramming it all in!

Oh i love that dress, my boss had it and i was super jealous. Pretty much anything nautical themed and i like it though. Packing sounds tough, although at least it makes you really utilise all your wardrobe i guess.

Eep, it's so awesome to see you in this dress! I swooned over it (like everyone else) when it first hit Topshop. Good call snagging it on ebay. Your green sneakers look great with it.

I've been meaning to tell you that I finally started reading Sherlock Holmes. My local library has a nice copy of all the short stories (plus The Hound of the Baskervilles) compiled together with their original illustrations. I kept renewing it so much that I ended up getting my own copy. It's rather fun to sit and read a story or two when I have a free moment :)

Major brownie points for wearing a boat dress by the water where there are actual boats. I have a bicycle dress and I always feel like I'm cheating because I never actually ride a bike while I'm wearing it. I'm weird, I know.

Good luck with your move. I've never moved in my life and I'm very thankful for that. I have a shit ton of stuff and I wouldn't even know where to start. Ugh.
