i wonder where de boidies is

So, today is (was) the first day of spring. It's been sunny for a while, off and on, but today was the first day it also smelt like spring, and was warm in the evening. It was also the day I handed in an essay and made two presentations, and now am as free as a boidie, as they say. It was a mad, frantic couple of weeks, and I apologize to anyone (everyone!) who I've been neglecting throughout. I plan to be back mad, bad and dangerous to know, but we'll see... I have an action packed Easter break ahead.

Between my two presentations today, Albert and I made a little jaunt over to Notting Hill, a region I haven't visited since arriving in London, although I was here a few years ago. I can be a bit of a reverse snob sometimes: I prefer areas with a bit of character, a bit of diversity, slightly rough around the edges. But I have to say, Notting Hill is much prettier than East London, and the people seemed really laid back, whereas I find my area can be a bit judgmental sometimes. I frequently feel that I'm not trendy enough to exist within a five mile radius of Brick Lane. ; )

I was really wanting a dress like this one (they used to have the same dress in a different/better print) and simultaneously craving this dress. So I was mighty pleased when the charity shop threw up a happy combination: the shape (and more realistic length) of the first, and the great star print of the second. Looking forward to summer for this one!

Ooh I love the star print combined with the red top! I've never been to Notting Hill on my visits to London- I'll be sure to put it on my must visit list! xo Emily

I completely LOVE your outfit, red, blue/black and white is the best colour combination ever and I've been wanting a star dress for a while so I'm so jealous haha! I've seen one at Matalan website or some other store but with my current "shopping ban" I can't one unless it's from a charity shop or really really cheap :|

Glad you visited Notting Hill! It is such a pretty place, and very diverse I think, at least on Portobello Road's Saturday Market.

PS: I too, felt not trendy enough for Brick Lane, but who cares...
PPS: Maybe we can find some cute (and cheap) spring jackets next Thursday? ;)

There is nothing i love more than a red cardigan. It is something about it being so bold and warm. I also love your skirt. Right now I am obssessed with the red and black trend, so classy and I want to try and make some black and red outfits from my wardrobe.

The star print is just too good! I thought they were polka dots at first (still awesome) but the star print is really a game changer.

Also, we're staying in SoHo for a few days in May! Is that area legit? I know I can google this information, but it makes more sense to ask a local like you ;)

I know what you mean about certain neighborhoods, I feel the same way about certain parts of NYC. I'm glad you had a enjoyable day in Notting Hill. This outfit is just brilliant. I love the stars! Way to merge your two dress cravings.

Never been that side of London much, too far away. Brick Lane only takes 25 mins so I tend to go there! Would like to visit Portabello Road though, see if it lives up to the hype!
Love the red jummper with the star print!
I know exactly what you mean about not being "trendy" enough. I get the feeling people look at me and want to say get of my turf haha!

It's spring yes. Y prefer Autmn and Winter. :(
Here in Barcelona is Better. Summer and sometimes spring is stifling heat. On the other hand I think than winter clotes are more pretty than summer clothes.
Sorry for my kk english.

Oh, it's good to have a new lease on life. I know exactly what you mean about the smell of spring. All day here, it has smelled like it does before a rain. I wish someone would bottle that scent and sell it as perfume. Lovely look.

you look simply adorable, and I love how this outfit is obviously fashionable to the fashion insider's eye, but still quite "normal" and classic to the outsider's eye. I love outfits like that because they look so effortless and organic.

I hear ya... I live in a trendy 'hood and people can be silly about appearances. But, that sort all look alike with their huge granny glasses and slouchy boots and pleated acid wash shorts and crappy taste in music, I just have to roll my eyes (maybe that makes me the actual jerky hipster, lol).

Eeep! A star print dress! It will definitely be a fun summer dress, though I do love how you've layered your blouse & sweater with it.
