quiet days

I've been keeping a low profile this week, since coming down with New Country Syndrome a bit. Luckily, it's come at a good time to catch up on all the other projects I set myself to do in the summer. Apart from working (I've been able to work from home for a few months which is how I seem to be on two-month vacation), I've been really getting back into writing, which kind of fell by the wayside when I got a new job this past spring. My other project of the summer was learning (or relearning) French. Like most anglophone Canadians, I studied it in school for about a million years and came out able to write an essay but unable to speak a word. I've been applying myself for the last month, doing CD courses, trying to read, getting a language exchange partner, and watching children's TV shows out of Quebec. I've regressed about 25 years and my favourite show is currently about a piglet and a camel and a puffin who are all friends. So cute! Kind of wish I'd actually watched these when I was a kid though; I would probably have learned way faster.

What are your goals and projects at the moment? I always have to have something in the back of my mind that I'm working on, or I start getting neurotic and think I'm doing nothing with my life...

This outfit looks so comfy!! :D
My current goals are to do well in my two online courses that start next month and maybe find a fashion internship (impossible)! I wanted to take a third but it filled up :(

bonne chance pour les cours de français! quand j'apprenais l'anglais, regarder des films en version originale avec les sous-titres m'a beaucoup aidée. Si tu veux des recommandations de films français, fais-moi signe :)
And I know what you mean about having goals and all that, keeping a blog helped me quite a bit through gloomy times. Good luck again xmoira

@ Moira: Je préfere regarder des séries des enfants sans sous-titres, parce que je n'écoute pas quand je les lis! Mais oui, j'aimerais vraiment quelques recommandations de films.

Thank you so much. :)

@Terri: Probably I could, though I'm not the biggest radio fan. Still, a bit of everything is good. Maybe I'll try listening while I work!

I really love that dress, Emily :) and the cardigan, as well. I've always wanted to speak French... you're lucky!

@Chantilly: Well, I'm not lucky yet. My three year old cousin speaks better than me. :P

Gorgeous print :)

I am currently moving all my work from my website to a flickr account and re-editing 150 photos in the process.. gets you dizzy after a few hours but well worth it because my work might actually get seen for once.

I kinda feel like once all that's done I might just end up taking some new photos for a change.. we'll see if I can trick myself into it at last :D

Other than that I am finally getting to travel more regularly. That's been on my list for a decade so it's a major tick in my imaginary list of things to do with my life.

Je ne parle francais pas.. five years of study and that's all that stuck ;)

your french is excellent!
my absolute favourite french films are 'Vénus Beauté', The Science of Sleep and The Christmas Tree (the last one is incredibly sad).
For fashion inspiration, 'Les demoiselles de Rochefort' and 'Pierrot le fou' are a treat for the eyes. And for something fun, go for 'l'auberge espagnole'.
Hope there are some of them that you haven't seen already and that you'll enjoy xx

Thanks Moira!

Actually, the only one I've seen is L'auberge espagnole, one of my favourite movies ever. Definitely time to rewatch it from a French perspective; I always loved it for being about Barcelona :)
I'll check out the others too. Thanks again!

This is a really lovely outfit, Emily. The print on your dress has especially caught my eye. Is it a new purchase or something you've had tucked away in Canada?

Good luck with relearning French. I've always had it in the back of my mind to get a basic grasp on the Polish language (some of my ancestors emigrated from Poland), but I've never quite gotten around to it. Other than that, project-wise, I've been bitten by the autumn bug (no surprise there!) and have a few crafting ideas up my sleeve (which is weird because I like the idea of crafting more than I actually like making crafts, so we'll see how that goes ;)

I'm just like you, I always have to be doing something to feel like my life is on track...hence the move to another country and the start of a grad program. haha! I say currently I have my plate full :D

ugh, french! I used to be great at it in high school, and then I sort of stopped practicing and now I am mediocre at best. Which sucks in a country where half the population speaks french and no english. Thank god we hardly mingle! :D

Yeah, sounds like my country...

Good luck with French. I speak a French dialect which gives me a pretty good place to start but the conjugations are tough. It's getting cold here and seeing all these sunny photos are making me crave some sunshine.
