90s leftover
In keeping with the last two posts (wearing stuff I've had for donkey's years), I present you with... a 90s velvet dress that my mom gave me for Christmas in 1997, I think (so I was 14 at the time). I loved it then, even though I think the whole 90s thing that is currently being revived was just going out at the time, so I wore it to fancy events for about a year and then stopped. But I could never bear to get rid of it, because it's so soft and I love velvet and it has always been flattering and I adored the Chinese-style neckline and capped sleeves. When I read that 90s style was back I thought, "yesssss," dug it out of a box in my parents attic, and brought it along with me back to Europe. I'm so glad to have it back in my life, and it just goes to show, you should never get rid of anything you really like!
I've been loving it ever since it got chilly, and have been trotting it out for family dinners, drinks with old friends, and an evening of Wayne's World and air guitar last weekend in Bristol, which seemed appropriate!

Love, love, love this. I love the color and shape (and of course, material). I've been looking for a velvet shift.
I love...everything about this. The color is gorgeous and perfect with those boots. I'm loving the 90's resurgence too. I was pretty out of touch back then, so it's nice to see these trends revisited.
I love velvet dresses to the point where it's become an argument with my friends, so thank you for posting this. I wish I could see your's more clearly! It looks lovely.
Oh lady that dress is delcious and love it with the shoes. I DIE x

what a cute dress! I can barely get rid of anything I own, because I keep thinking I'll regret it in x years :)
Yea so I thought about my comment and I was like, ummmm out of context and minus my facial expression it would be super weird haha, I mean STFU in the OMG you're so rad and I love it kind of way. To clarify.
PS I love you. Your boots. Your dress. xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
@Kallie: no worries, I knew, given that it was a 90s dress that your reaction was likely to be slobber. ;) I'll pass your regards on to my mom!
What a fun blast from the past! I've been digging on velvet lately, too. And my freshman year homecoming dress was a black velvet number, way back when!
I love velvet... Looking forward to your return

Ah, I love velvet -- especially in '90s dress form! The neckline is beautiful, and I love your pairing with that caramel colored sweater.
wow you are the same size you were when you were 14?! anyway, glad your always seem to find treasures stored away long ago in your attic because it's amazing on you, the color & cut & fun w/ those boots. Bristol again sounds awesome!

Recycled fashion...winning!! This dress is gorgeous! And...ummm...you still fit in something you fit in at 14? Impressive.
It's dresses like this that make me realize that I do in fact like the current 90's resurgence. You wear this gem in such a lovely and subtle way that isn't overdone or obnoxious (as, I find, Urban Outfitters to be at the moment. I can't look at their catalogs or website nowadays without getting annoyed).
One of the items I kept from my recent wardrobe purge was a 90's oversized wool sweater. It's the loveliest shade of lilac and I can't wait to wear it this spring with shorts and tights.
