old hollywood

If all goes according to plan, at the time this posts I should be presenting on my dissertation topic, and answering such delightful questions as "how would you define public space?" Given that I can't even think of a title for this post at the moment, it promises to be a good time.

Anyway, more pictures from last weekend in Bonn. Sigh, life was so peaceful then... mostly because I was procrastinating. This outfit is mostly from the same charity shop, and illustrates a point, sort of. I know a lot of people, to streamline their closet, like to determine a colour scheme for themselves, and only buy items that fit into it. I've toyed with this idea, as simplifying is always an attractive concept, but this outfit just shows why it wouldn't work for me. The skirt would have made the cut, since half my wardrobe seems to be red or orange, but the mint ice cream belt? Or the blouse... what colour is that anyway? Wimpy peach? Anaemic salmon? Not one of my go-to colours for sure. But now it's one of my go to blouses. Even anaemic salmon deserves a chance! Although I'll try not to resort to that argument tomorrow maybe....

On a slightly saner note, I love the "Ava Gardner on vacation" way these photos turned out. By the ever-talented Albert, as usual.

Lovely travel photos, they look like stills from a movie! Your skirt is amazing too, it reminds me of a bandann.

Love the photos you look very glamorous. I don't think people should necessarily stick to one pallet of colours, this proves how mixing it up can work- the belt looks lovely with the orange and poor anaemic salmon! xx

ONE colour palette in one's wardrobe? I blanch at the very thought!

Eleni said...

PS: I think you've convinced me to invest in a pair of those Fly sandals - I've coveted them for ages but your photos have confirmed my suspicion that they really do go with everything! Are they as comfy as they look?

PPS: good luck for your presentation! I'll go away now :)

The skirt is beautiful!
I think it would break my heart to limit myself to a colour scheme. I'd feel sorry for all of the colours that are left out!

Amazingly beautiful photoshoot by Albert! You look adorable in that shirt.

Wimpy peach or not, I LOVE that blouse on you. And Bonn really does look very peaceful.

P.S. Thank you for the thoughtful comment.

dissertation time in spring? very harsh! :) good luck!
ps) i think most of the times i operate the way you described- to save some space in my closet i tend to buy only things that I know I ll be wearing a lot!but some times, it is hard to resist!

True - I love the pop of color that the belt gives. And as for keeping the closet all in one color family - I would go nuts! How boring (at least to me). I'm sure you'll do just fine with your dissertation and I know you'll be thrilled when it's behind you! By the way, check the blog next Wednesday - I finished my final Campion book and... :-)

Hope you rocked it!! ;) Of course you did!
Anyway, I really like the gradient on this outfit and cut with the mint belt. I didn't notice that when I saw you wearing this though! Which proves that seeing thins in picture gives as another perspective.

PS: Yay, Emily rocking the Oval charity shop look! ;)

My fingers are crossed for you! Let me know how it went!

As usual, great shots.

How did the presentation go?

I too toy with the thought of restricting my wardrobe to certain colors, but I imagine I haven't taken the plunge much for the reasons you pointed out. I too find things that may not work into a certain color scheme, but I truly fall for. I suppose I also like the option to change it up a bit.

Your blouse is gorgeous, even if it is wimpy peach!

Elise said...

That blouse is rather pretty! I couldnt do the whole streamlining thing, my wardrobe is too full of random goodies - most of which match luckily! :)

ohhh what?! girl you look awesome.
I love you in peach/salmon. the collar on that dress is darling.

You look so lovely in this outfit, every aspect of it just works so well together. I would't be able to live by that rule either, you never know what you might be passing up (like your shirt and belt) if you only buy within your colour. Hope everything went well for you today!

i am in love with your skirt, amen!

Gorgeous blouse, and the mint belt is great with this. Colors are too much fun to be restricted!

These pictures are BEAUTIFUL! I adore these colors. Reminds me of a creamsicle haha. The blouse and sunglasses are adorable. I really love the one where you are in front of the yellow building because all of the colors are sunny. You're the cutest! Have a nice weekend. =)

Ugh, I'm green-eyed with envy. Haha. Just kidding. But why is it that everything seems better in Europe? Maybe you should come to America and see for yourself what I mean!( not to insult America, I love it, seriously.)

I read this hilarious quote somewhere by some famous author that you can't really enjoy free time unless you have something else to do...that said I hope your work is going well!
I am IN LOVE with this color combo. In particular, I want to steal your belt and dance around with it like a madwoman. Its the perfect color to go with peach and orange. LIke...high fashion color combo meets perfectly styled streetwear.

As I always say,you have the perfect color sense.
But I don't see anything other than you!

The streamlined color-schemed closet is an intriguing idea, but it would never work for me. I do feel guilty about over-consuming, but I also like to have options. And in some instances more options than I really need. Gah. Anyway, I'm completely enamored with these photos. Very Old Hollywood/Ava Gardner on vacation, indeed.

Hope your presentation went well :D

You look lovely - anaemic salmon is my favourite colour right now. I can't imagine just sticking to one. This winter I LOVED mustard and tangerine and right now I am way into anaemic all sorts. I am sure I'll get back into "real" colours though so I am glad they are all waiting for me in my closet :D

I really love the way your hair looks today, perfectly styled :) and the colors you put together are perfect! You know I won't be able to forget about that little collar :)

Ashley said...

I like the color of your top! And I like your hair, and your belt, and your sunglasses, and pretty much everything, really. I have a few oddly pale-colored tops, so I know where you're coming from...but you still pull this off so well.

I hope your dissertation presentation went well! What topic is it on? I feel like I should know this but oddly don't.
