raging breakfast

Isn't it funny how casual outfits sometimes don't take any less time or effort than "fancier" ensembles? What exactly makes this look casual anyhow? I'm inclined to think it's the racerback and the plaid, giving this dress a touch of grunge appeal. Nonetheless, this past Sunday morning was the first time in a long time that I actually found myself ironing, after this little boys shirt materialized from a suitcase looking pretty crushed. Maybe it's the unapologetic topknot that designates this as casual.

I wore this for breakfast at the newly-revamped Moritz Factory. I flew into a bit of a rage over breakfast when the waiter, happy enough to speak Catalan to my boyfriend, insisted on speaking Spanish to me, despite my never uttering a word of it to him. Albert admitted he was stupid but justified "he probably thinks he's being polite by speaking Spanish to you." For the record, if somebody goes to the trouble of addressing you in a particular language, it is the f#($ing opposite of polite to reply in another one... while I accept that wasn't his intention, the implication is pretty clearly "your Catalan sucks." Anyway, language issues are pretty complicated here, between history, migration, people who can and can't speak one or the other... so maybe I'll treat you all to my rant on the subject another day. : D Hopefully soon, since I have internet at home again!

I have mixed feelings about the term casual too. Is it the fabric, the cut, the price? I kind of think I'm always casual chic, as are you in this post my dear! I just love love love jumpers these days and I adore the little details and the fabulous print of this one. An inspiration for sure!

@Ashley: Yeah, but imagine you learn enough Turkish to speak it, and everyone STILL speaks English to you... majorly annoying!

OMG should I be nervous about not speaking the language??? I must get to the library for a phrasebook.

Also, I love this look on you. You've been rocking red like a champ lately :)

I've been loving black, white, and red lately, so I love this outfit! :)

Wow, that language thing must have been frustrating. My brother learned Russian partly as a way to help my sisters when they joined our family (they're adopted from Russia) and I know that after a while they would get so annoyed when they would talk to him in English and he would respond in Russian!

I love this ensemble, it looks very cozy and still sophisticated.

Yes, I encountered that when I went to France... I would speak my best french but they would hear my American accent somewhere and start to answer me in English... it is very frustrating! But I think most have good intentions when they do that

: ) xx

Emily, I am so smitten with this outfit I can hardly stand it. You look amazing.

I do hope you continued speaking in Catalan to the waiter even after he began speaking in his implication-loaded Spanish ;)

aww you look so so darling! I def wouldnt call it casual though, i think the white button up makes it more formal & buns go both ways I feel, depending on what you're wearing, if that makes sense. Anyway, at least he didn't speak to you in English- although def still annoying of him. I would get livid in Spain or pretty much anywhere when a person would clearly understand me but answer back in horrible english a zillion times worse than my freakin spanish! Ok, getting carried away- enjoy your weekend lady! Is Albert back in town?

all this red certainly looks great on you lady. i'd like to hear more about what your language experience has been like. people just make assumptions you know. while josh(who speaks only english) and i were in argentina more than once people assumed i was brazilian and that he was the one who could speak spanish...it was so fun when he'd confusingly point to me to translate.

I hate when people change language when they talk to you, it happens to me and I'm 100% catalan so I imagine it must be a lot worse for you. My personal pet peeve is when people talk to me in catalan but keep saying my name in spanish, argh.

In any case, I already said so before but I really love this dress, looks fun to twirl in it :)
