old and new
I didn't get many physical gifts for Christmas since I stayed in Barcelona, forgot to tell my family what I wanted, and also forgot to send most of them my address. ;) My sister Morna made a superhuman effort however, and this fantastic necklace from Red Brick arrived in time for me to open it on Christmas morning! I wore it with an outfit I've had for years and my new red shoes from, of all places, Marks and Spencers. These shoes may represent the only time I've bought the same item in two different colours. I bought the black ones in the summer (see here and here in summer and winter, respectively) and they are the shiniest, happiest, most comfortable, cheapest things I own. I was delighted to see they had my size in red on a recent visit to the UK.
This winter I decided to focus on a colour scheme, since winter wardrobes are always a challenge for me (layers take up a lot of space in suitcases). I chose red, black, green and burgundy as my primary colours, and it's been great so far. Still need to work on upping the green content of my wardrobe a bit, but I do find getting dressed so much easier this winter, without having bought very many things.
P.S. I love the curious harshness of winter sunlight...
P.P.S. Don't mind my socks and tights thing (ongoing throughout the winter). I've arrived at that point in my life where I value my blood circulation more than my appearance. :D

@Person hinter den Worten: You're probably right... I always feel like they stand out a bit with my sheer-ish tights. But I'm wearing them anyway!
I'm totally swamped or I'd write more...but just know...I'm coming for those red mary-janes. Better watch out
;)
M&S I would never have guessed. Looking lovely and very chic. The necklace your sister gave you is great, I love unusual jewellery. So with you on the socks and tights, or two pairs of tights or tights under trousers... It is winter after all.
@Rebecca: I know! I ducked into M&S to escape the rain one day, and came out 20 quid poorer. I thought for sure I'd be safe in that shop...
@Kallie: We can negotiate a share-system with those gold ones that you have and I covet... or pretty much any of your shoes, actually.
Looove this look. I have the same shoes :D
I noticed the socks and thought what a good idea it was!!! I do it with boots and with shoes and leggings (incidently, with my red Mary Janes) but I might try it with tights! The whole outfit is so pleasing- I love the black against the red and the combo skirt! I remember asking you about the shoes (black) before- are these them? http://www.marksandspencer.com/M-S-Woman-Dolly-Shoes/dp/B00A3L2FK4?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_2&nodeId=209669031&sr=1-2&qid=1357594187&pf_rd_r=0AYXXW7A4QNF4P4JZCDS&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=209669031&pf_rd_p=321381387&pf_rd_s=related-items-3 I really do like them!
I've never really been able to pull of statement necklaces, but yours is amazing! It reminds me of the little diver on vintage Jantzen swimsuit labels!
@Kezzie: Yeah, that's them. I recommend half-sizing up if you can. I'm usually a 4 UK, but bought 4.5 in both of them. Even better if you can try them on somewhere though. :)
@Christy: I hear you; I always feel statment necklaces overwhelm me a bit, but I think this one, because it's a bit longer and fairly monochrome, is easier on small people!
Love this shoes! So cute! And I love Barcelona - we spent Christmas and New Year there a few years ago and it was wonderful! So sunny and warm <3
i'm loving your look....such a whimsical and fun necklace. i checked out that shop and i love those gorgeous silk prints. will have to go back. i'm so inspired by you....you always look amazing and to think you're living out of a suitcase. it's such a challenge to know what to pack. hope you're having a good year so far.

Love the awesome color scheme! And I love those shoes!

I think I've said this a gazillion times but I love when you wear red. It's certainly your color. You scored a pair of sweet ruby slippers...how momentous!
@Monique: I know! I should probably quit blogging now that I've achieved that goal... never gonna get better than this!
a colour coded capsule wardrobe - you're a girl after my own heart!
You're getting all Parisian on me!
I love this: I love the curious harshness of winter sunlight...
You're like a talented little songwriter, in France ;)
P.S. I have a pair of boots from Marks and Spencer and I loooooove them.
how kidn of your sister to send you that necklace! I didn't get many physical gifts either and my mom was frustrated i never gave her a 'wish list' but J & I got each other our trip to Belgium which was by far the priciest gift we've ever bought but of course worth it. anyway, that's intersting about the color scene theme, def works though! love that skirt (or dress?) & coat w/ the shoes & def thought the socks were intentional.

You look amazing in red, it's the perfect colour to brighten up these horrible cold winter days. My red beret is my new way to stick two fingers up to all the grey in London. Be grateful for the sunshine because I haven't seen that yellow ball in the sky for weeks!
I wanted to say thank you for your lovely comment over on Take Courage last week. I really feel like the Texan and I have developed our own "style" in recent months, and the creativity is much needed when the rest of the week I'm drafting affidavits... You've been a long-time follower and I'm really grateful for it! x
How perfect that the necklace from your sister arrived in time for Christmas. I love when things work out in such a way. The necklace is amazing, by the way! :)
Snazzy red shoes, Emily! I'm always behind buying multiples in several colors if it's something I really like. That to me is sensible. Hehe.
