old traditions for new people
I think I've probably mentioned my love for vermut (vermouth) the weekend pre-lunch aperitif that I discovered last year was a mainstay of Iberian culture. What I like about it, apart from the vermut itself, is the social aspect, the gathering and having a drink with friends or family in a leisurely fashion, chatting and letting the day unravel before you. I just hadn't had the full experience before.
Some friends started a semi-regular vermut Sunday event, and after the first session I'm a fan. It makes me feel like a local (and we all know how much I like that). I got to have a reason to dress nicely on a Sunday, somewhere to take my new book, and to sit in the sun in January and, well, watch people drink vermut, since I was on a bit of a drinking ban at the time. Happily, that's been lifted so I think I may enjoy this coming Sunday even more!
There were also patatas bravas
and good company
and even polaroids! But unfortunately I had to delete that picture because my former friend is bipolar and can't be happy unless she's controlling and manipulating other people...

Look at that, victor is becoming a superstar! haha. I'm definitely a fan of the vermut.
I love this post...just a fun read :) One of my favorite things to do is so sit around with good company, eat, drink and enjoy the day!

I primarily used to like vermouth in Manhattans. This seems more wholesome!
LOVE! xx

hey look at you, you look completely Spanish by now (dare I say that and not Catalan right? ; ) enjoying the mid day tradition! so fun to see how your life is going on there, making new friends and all. i dont generally drink either nowadays but also love the gathers it can cause. looks like a wonderful time & was fun to see, glad you shared! http://dusanabotswana.com/
@Dusana: let´s say European, to be on the safe side ;)
@ Gordianus: altogether more relaxing than cocktails, I find. It´s definitely more about the socializing than the drinking--well, a good mix of both maybe.
@ Ashley: Victor = blog star January 2013!
How do you have wooden polaroids! Too cool for school.
That looks like a helluva lot of fun! Sunday drinking is always an A+.
xo
How lovely! I've never heard of this before, but I suppose it kind of reminds me of Sunday brunch. I love sitting in the sun during winter...it makes the sun more of a friend than a foe - like it is during the summer months.
Omg those polaroids! xx
This is so funny, I just heard about this for the first time yesterday! I went out for tapas with a few people for an intercambio- I'm studying abroad in Segovia- and one of the local girls was telling us about vermut. Interesting!!
oh I want a sunday drinking tradition and feel like a local! this looks like stills from a wonderful lifestyle series haha :) haven't had vermouth in years!
xox

@Kallie: the wooden polaroids... I think my friend Anna buys them on ebay (she's the one with the polaroid camera). I think it works out to like a Euro a photo for film though!
@Kallie
The wooden polaroid is a limited edition. If I can help you somehow my mail is atomasmoreno@gmail.com

I have been too much of a homebody for much of the last year. I think it would be nice to start branching out and partaking in new-to-me traditions... something both fun and relaxing as this appears to be.
