jester dress

So, a bit late, but here finally are some pictures of my New Years Dress! I think this dress will be very recognizable to many of you; it's pretty famous in blog land as The Clothes Horse Dress. I wondered for a bit if I would even wear the dress on the blog, seeing as it's so connected with someone else, but in the end I decided "whatever." It seems that most things I want that aren't vintage these days have some blog connection; I guess it's only to be expected since I don't tend to read magazines or scour runway shots or even go to stores very often. Anyway, I'm not sure how much I'll wear this dress on the blog, but I'll certainly wear it in real life. It's been to a few parties already and everyone comments on it and drools over it to a hilarious degree. : D

My "New Years' Resolution" this year is to spend less time on the internet. My internet behaviour reached an all time low this past year, and I really don't want to wake up in fifty years and realize I spent my twenties online. It doesn't help that these days everything I do for school requires me to use the computer and often the internet, but I'm determined to get out and away from it more. Hand in hand with that resolution is a "quality over quantity" resolution for the blog. How are everyone else's resolutions going? I never used to make any, but these days I just take it as a good excuse to formalize something I want to do anyway.

I love this dress! I hadn't seen it before - so it is just the 'You' dress to me!! I am very tempted to have a go at making something similar now :)

OH wow, that dress is a beauty. I adore the style and print..and actually I totally forget ever seeing it on The Clothes Horse blog. It looks like it was made for you:)

what a fun dress!
that's a great resolution. on one hand, the internet gives me access to people like you who i would never meet otherwise, and something to do when i can't sleep. but, it's so easy to get sucked into research, blogging, etc. and completely lose hours of the day. i wish more people would try to connect with their immediate surroundings instead of being wired to their cellphones/ ipods/ etc.

i looove the dress. lots!! i agree with spending less time on the internet...not using it all break made me feel like a person again!

a dress is a dress, who cares who wears it! :) it looks stunning on you, i really love it! :)

i agree about less time online, too...more time reading (i hope!) for the new year!

I live the dress and I don't really care if it's connected to anyone. You look great in it and I want your shoes! I didn't make any formal New Year's Resolutions, but I have been thinking in that line anyway.

Ahh the clothes horse dress! It is quite pretty, but I really like another one from Neneee. And, I also love the clothes horse dress on modcloth! Glad it's sold out now because I really love it! If it gets back in stock later I'll be probably getting it anyway :P but that's a dress that I've actually seen quite a lot on other blogs too...

I agree with you on quality over quantity here, I'm trying to do that myself, but not having my boyfriend to photograph me when I want makes it difficult (he really is very patient and knows how I want the pictures to be!). Though I'm perfectly aware that I have much free time right now, and when I start my job in London I'm not going to have much time for my little corner :/ tough I want to keep posting at least once a week!

As of my giveaway, go comment again for the other entry you stated, I have to consider each comment as one entry to participate so please do it, and state what the entry is for (I'd really like you to win :P )

Velvet said...

Wow! You look gorgeous in it.

Where did you take those photos?

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Raquel: I really like another of her dresses too, although the colour I wanted is sold out.
@Velvet: The photos were taken on Montjuïc, close to Plaça Espanya. I think you could take pictures there for a year without repeating a location!

Thanks everybody, glad to know that I too can claim ownership of this dress!

you look beautiful! who cares about the connection to the other blog, you clearly make it your own! lovin' the navy tights, too. it's really amazing how these totally different patterns can really enhance one another.

brilliant post. :)

Yea my mom knows, she actually wants to see it....but I won't let her. I just feel stupid taking pictures in front of people (unless they're taking them...then I'm good...haha)

emily!! that dress is amaaazing, and although i had seen it before on rebecca's blog, it doesn't lose any of the fantastic factor because she wore it too. it looks great on you--such an awesome fit!

i totally don't believe in previews anymore, but i probably should have paid more attention to the one for black swan because i wasn't expecting it to be quite so horrifying! still, it was really good and worth a watch (in my opinion)--just make sure you don't see it alone :)

i have a similar resolution to your internet cutback but re: television. i really need to step away from the tube in a big way--lately when i get home from work i just want to zone out and that needs to stop! (because then i just feel, well, zoned out.) there are so many things i do right now that make me afraid to wake up in thirty years and feel like i wasted time... but i'll probably always feel that way as long as i'm not living like a gypsy vagabond.

Great dress! It's silly to worry about whether someone else has the same dress, especially when it's as unique as this one is. You look good in it, and if it makes you happy, that's all that matters!

Also, your shoes are super cute.

That dress is so unique and pretty! ... Love the background too ;) ... I was thinking of making less internet for me a resolution but don't think it's remotely possible for me, but I should take more time outside on the real world haha ...

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT DRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This dress totally says "Emily" to me. I don't know, it's quirky and lovable like you :P

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@NRIGirl and Sanny: Wow, one thing I was not expecting compliments on this time around was my hair! Styling courtesy of a few bobby pins and quite a lot of wind!
@Ashley: Sweetest comment ever! And I think I did recognize a kindred spirit in the dress when I first saw it in thumbnail form! : )

Oh my goodness, this dress looks amazing on you! You really shine in blue.

I totally hear you on spending less time on the internet. For quite a while now Sundays have been my ''day away,'' but I'd like to do a gradual increase to maybe 3-4 days where I'm ''unplugged.''

Oh, and I'm all for carrying warm tones through the winter. It seems less bleak that way :)

Thanks dear! It's a beautiful place indeed.

Ha, wow, you know you've been blogging too long when you recognize another blogger's signature dress right off the bat! I was like huh, Rebecca? But you rock this dress! Blue is a lovely color on you. That top photo is simply stunning!

Emily--I don't read the Clothes Horse, so I shall think of this as YOUR dress and it truly is a conversation starter. Good luck on your resolution. From my perspective, all of your globe trotting is worthy of mention for your 20s.

*Drool*...I adore the dress! New Years Resolution to "have more fun" is going well - trip booked to Canada in March and movie date with my fella scheduled for tomorrow night. Woo hoo!

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Catita: It's Montjuïc, close to Plaça Espanya, where there are also lots of touristy things to do. But my first thought for a photoshoot was indeed Parc Guëll... in the end we were to lazy to trek over there and Montjuïc is close to home so....
@Jan: Nice! Not a bad resolution either!

that's such an original and adorable dress! you look amazing! i love how you styled it!

and i agree with your resolution. i need to spend more time off the internet too!

Love the dress on you :) I always enjoy seeing the same clothes on different blogs because it just goes to show how varied you can style the same piece!

Blogs are my only fashion source too (apart from unplanned exposure like movies and bill boards) and yours is always a joy! :)
