old faithful

Photobucket

There are a few old faithful elements in these pictures. I know it's a brand new year (and I'll get pictures of my New Year's outfit up at some point) but that doesn't mean everything needs to be brand new. This is my Barcelona bike, which is probably officially vintage by now (just not the right kind of vintage, like my Mexico bike was, hehe). I bought this bike in early 2007 for €60 (gah, it took me so long to find the damn euro sign on the keyboard!) and since then have probably paid over €100 in repairing its constantly defunct brakes and replacing the seat and back wheel when they inevitably got stolen, to say nothing of all the punctures... Barcelona is one of the world record cities for getting your bike stolen so even this ancient and decrepit baby has a motorcycle lock on it! Still, with all its myriad faults, the bike has served me very well and indubitably saved me more money than I've spent on it.

The boots are ancient faithful friends too, and the sweater is going to be, I can tell!

sweater: Three Feathers Vintage
skirt: Zara (yeah, the evil empire that I hate)
tights: boots
scarf: hand me down
boots: Timberland, ancient
bike: probably about fourth hand!
bag: was my mom's

@NRIGirl: Well, Barcelona looks like lots of things, it's one of the most diverse cities out there. I haven't been very good at documenting it this time, but you can see some posts in November/December. : )

I love you oversized sweater and it looks great layered with your Zara skirt :p
Biking seems like a great way to travel, eco-friendly and exercise friendly :) I've seen a lot of Londoners riding bikes, maybe I can try it too if I find a house close to my hospital :)

I wish I could motor around on a bike. I don't trust Dublin drivers not to kill me. Loving the mustard tones :)

You're beautiful in that mustard sweater! I love your tights too.

@Raquel: I haven't tried biking in London yet, for reasons that Jan mentions. I'm kind of scared of the psycho English people... ; p

I love the mustard jumper - I have been thinking of knitting one in this colour!

Do you ride much? I had a short-lived bike thing last year when I was living close enought o work to ride each day. Unfortunately Sydney with its massive hills isn't really ideal for riding, unless you are crazy fit!

I wish I had some old reliable yet still incredibly awesome items like these in my wardrobe. I have no soul when it comes to clothes. I sell, trade, donate, or toss clothes at least 3 times a year without thinking twice.

aw, don't worry--i am totally hopeless at canadian geography as well :) i once drove an hour toward ottawa instead of toward quebec city before realizing that i was turned around. we went to portland, maine (not oregon), and it's about a 4 hour drive to the coast from where i live.

Love your cozy sweater and scarf combo! You are the picture of casual chic... and the bike is a lovely (and pragmatic!) touch. :)

I always enjoy seeing how you style up this sweater. The color is terrific on you. AND THOSE SLEEVES! Nothing beats a big cozy sweater with bog cozy sleeves.

Maple coffee is delicious. I wouldn't recommend having any other maple-y treats with it, though. It'd put you in a serious sugar coma! That aside, you should definitely try some next time you have the chance :)

you look so cozy and warm. but i always like a unique accent or spin you put into everything you wear. the scarf is terrific, and i like the vintagy and oldness of everything. hope this bike doesnt get stolen :)

You know since my rant about Zara in one of my comments here I've been in the evil empire myself and must say they got some gorgeous stuff in there.. *sigh* well, obviously you know this already :D Looking great!

I just realized today that I've had my current bike in daily use for over three years now. Just as well considering the amount of money I had to invest in repairs over the first year. Breaks and tires always seem to die on me and nevermind the gears. My bike is now a no gear camouflaged as a three gear. Thank goodness this place is flat as a pancake! :)
