cultural endeavours

So, this week happened. Man, I am so behind on everything and sooo tired, and sooo glad that it's a long weekend here!

I wore this last weekend to go to an exhibition at the CCCB, the Centre de Cultura Contemporànea de Barcelona, and I felt rather chicly understated. I'm always a bit leary of knee socks making me look like a schoolgirl, and of heels making me look like a businesswoman (ew), but the combination seemed to give it just the right edge.

The exhibit was fascinating: photos of Barcelona between 1909 and 1945 by a photographer called Brangulí, who, in addition to capturing some great street scenes, had an interest in photographing the industry that used to drive Barcelona... so photos of women working in textile shops and men making toy cardboard theatres at toy factories... a fascinating glimpse into life at the beginning of the 20th century.

P.S. Dusana did an interview with me about my travels, style, and other thoughts over at her blog!

Photos by Albert, all photos taken at the CCCB. I love the juxtaposition of old and new buildings that make up the courtyard.

dress: Mavi (old), sweater: car boot sale, socks: H&M, shoes: Clarks, necklace: gift from Mom

Really loving this outfit, its exactly as you described it, its refined but still young (but not young in a bad way). I would love to see some of those photos! It sounds fascinating. Must Google this :)

you definitely countered the little girlish vibe of the knee socks quite nicely with those shoes. You look like one of those girls who can just roll out of bed, blindly pick out clothes, and look incredible.

You look really beautiful.
There's an exhibit in Nashville of similar sorts that I've been planning to go to. It's not Barcelona-- it's Ancient Greece, but around the same time period. I'll try and find a link to show you.

I am such a fan of your shoes, they're really lovely. They go so well with that green cardigan too!

That second photo of you is just gorgeous miss model! The exhibit sounds fascinating, life in Barcelona sounds fabulous for you!

I absolutely love those shoes. I have a pair similar to those and I can't wait to wear them this winter.

The exhibition sounds so fascinating. Historical exhibitions are probably my favorite type of exhibitions. I like to go to the American Museum of Natural History just to look at lifestyle displays and costumes of Native Americans and ancient Middle Easterns.

That exhibit sounds wonderful. I haven't been to a museum or art exhibit in too long! Also, this is one of my favorite fall outfits I've seen. The knee socks with those heeled boots are perfect!

Aww thanks for the links, so kind! This looks like an amazing exhibit, lucky you. "Chicly understated" is so you, a simple dress but w/ a great/interesting cut & great shoes... these ones I particularly love for the casual color but fun heel. Great idea w/ balancing the heels & knee highs, I think I"ll steal it ; ) Will you be celebrating Halloween over there?

that sweater looks soooo cozy. for some reason i want lots of wool clothes in olive green right now.

also, that exhibit sounds so interesting!

The exhibit does sound fascinating. While I often find myself oohing over any and all photographs, I am most drawn to older ones. The older the better :)

You're right - this outfit does have the right amount of edge. You look great!

Loving the chic understatement.
