vintage newness

Photobucket

This is my new-old velvet dress! Back in August, I was attached to Etsy as to an intravenous drip, searching for a vintage velvet dress with sleeves and some kind of interesting collar, and after several sweltering afternoons this dress popped up. Gorgeous, good quality (Saks Fifth Avenue, ahem), from the 1960s, swingy skirt, peter pan collar... and $33! I bought it within 15 minutes, and then had to wait two months until I had moved country, found an apartment, and finally had an address to send for it. So you can imagine my squeaks of joy when it arrived!

I was going to save it until Christmas to show you, but then remembered that the whole reason I didn't buy a red velvet dress was so that it would have more wearability than just Christmas. But anyway, weather permitting you'll get a Christmas photoshoot of this too! Speaking of weather, I saw snow when I woke up the other day, and accordingly rushed out to take these pictures. But in retrospect, it isn't snow at all, it's just a heavy frost. Oops.

Sorry for the absolute verbal nonsense coming out of me today. My Social Sciences Research Methodologies paper is doing my head in. And if you don't know what that is, count yourself fortunate.

Yay! There is nothing quite like a long awaited parcel :) especially when it contains a gorgeous dress like this! Love your beret and those shoes too

Heavy frost counts as snow round here, doesn't it? ;)

It's gorgeous! I love velvet, it's elegant and a bit old fashioned I guess.

I think I have an approximate idea what your paper is about and totally understand you. Social Sciences require lots of work and study.

Have a great week!

oh my goooooosh! I love that hat!!! :):)

Don't worry, dear, you'll learn to sew! It's hard to conceptualize how you can achieve your result, but after you learn to think in that way there is no stopping you! Take some lessons! You'll love it! (if you're a tedious person, that is :D)

This dress is lovely, you can wear it any occasion you want! It looks great the way you style it and it will surely offer a great deal of styling possibilities (hello remix!).

The dress is BEAUTIFUL! You do better planning ahead than I, but yesterday I snagged a Saks wool skirt in a tiny accordion pleat for $$3. Don't have a clue how I'll style it.

Gorgeous velvet dress, Emily! It looks fabulous with your red hat. I actually bought a red velvet dress to wear for Christmas and I'm determined to give it more than that one wear this winter. I'm in the process of scheming up ways to style it that don't scream ''holiday party!''

Darling necklace, btw.

P.S. I'm glad the link I shared was useful to you! Man, I could go for a cup of Yorkshire tea right now, but it's currently midnight here and I'm far too lazy even for tea.

Oh I am really jealous of you velvet dress! It's so pretty! And you look so pretty. I also love the way you styled it with the grey tights, beige shoes and red hat, those are colours that look so nice together. And also that hat is gorgeous! I want a colourful beret too because I have black, dark grey, light grey and navy blue ones but none in a bright colour so I'm trying to get a red and a mustard hats ;) that I'll leave for when I'm in England though since my luggage is already too heavy!
