we go a-walking

Albert told me that it was 2 degrees (that's celcius, before you all go crazy) in Barcelona last night, but a couple of weeks ago it was absolutely gorgeous, and we went for a walk through the historical neighbourhoods of Born, the Barri Gotic, and Raval. There was a slight chill between the buildings, but glorious sunshine all around. I'm so glad I have Barcelona to visit and feel a little at home in. Home is a bit of a strange concept at the moment. Half my family is currently in Vancouver and the other half in other parts of the country, my boyfriend in Barcelona, me in London... but for how long? And what next? Uncertainty is a way of life.

As for the outfit, I think this could be called "Ruby Slippers shops her suitcase." Basically a collection of all my frequently-worn items. I was pretty happy to get back to... the three winter items I hadn't brought with me!

2 degrees sounds balmy about now- it's -30 in Ottawa! You look super cute- I love the hat and all the colours! xo Emily

Emily--I have owned that same sweater! Fancy that it made it's way into a charity shop there.

I have only ever encountered towering buildings that blocked sunlight like this in Manhattan. And I wonder how my midwestern wide-open-spaces mindset would take to it.

@Terri: haha how random! It's a cozy sweater but it does tend to pill a little bit.

I think you would like the buildings in Barcelona. They don't tower as they do in New York; they only block the sunlight because the streets are rather narrow in the old part of town. : )

I LOVE that outfit - the colors, the textures, the combination of everything. Yum. But it's the shoes I'm really coveting. I used to have a similar pair, but parted with them many years ago in a fit of purging. {sigh}

I love your colourful outfit and the pictures.
How I miss Barcelona! I did a walking tour through those same streets :)

And how about these temperatures?! In my hometown today was actually colder than in London! (I have a weather widget in my desktop. And here the weather has been pretty crappy, not cold, but raining almost non stop. Bahh!

@Raquel: well, it hasn't been so cold here (6 degrees-ish) but apparently it's going to snow on Thursday! When are you coming?

@ Jenni: Welcome! And yeah, living away sucks. I'm pretty grumpy at the moment because I'm living away from absolutely everybody, but on the plus side, it's nice to hang out with some of my friends again!

SMASH! While we're currently leaving Vancouver after 17 years, it's a place I highly recommend. Especially in the summer and especially for the firework festival! One of my favourite activities of all time!

Your hat is wonderful! And I think "home" is like a collection of people/places/memories that you associate with safety/comfort, not necessarily a physical place (especially when you or the people you love are wanderers).

This is a beautiful assemblage of pieces, Emily. And colors, too.

I can't keep my eyes off the third photo you posted. The angle at which you took it is mesmerizing. The shadows really seem to give it the chilly effect you talked about experiencing.

You have to be the queen of wardrobe recycling. I feel like I've seen them all appear on the blog before..which may or may not be true, but that does not make this outfit any less cute. :) Wonderful oxfords btw.

Look forward to hearing from you

Have I swooned over this plaid skirt before? I am pretty sure I have but I lose track. Well, very swoon worthy and I love how you've styled it. Those shoes are gorgeous too as is your location!

A friend of mine alway says Home is where you lay your head. Now I know there is more to home than that, but I always liked how simple that makes the concept seem :)

that necklace is adorable and these photos are lovely, as always. the concept of home is always a tricky one when you're living like a vagabond :) i grew up (and currently live) in vermont, so this will always be the place i associate most with "home," but i do also have a special place in my heart for boston, since that's where i did a lot of my growing up.
