coffee break

This is a wee bit random, but kind of fun. Basically, almost all of my outfit posts take place after going for coffee or before going for a beer, and I find myself with a collection of pictures of myself looking rather glam while indulging in my drug of choice (tea is my first love though, and my drug of choice at home). As someone who was deeply unphotogenic before having a blog, I don't take attractive portraits lightly. ; ) Plus, it's kind of fun remembering that the outfits in question didn't exist in a vacuum, they were part of a day that included, well, coffee.

I might have to do a beer version of this post at some point. : D

this was more of a cupcake break, with Raquel in London

Sponsorship opportunity?

realistic rather than glam. Coffee in the airport, oh yeah!

having coffee and a biyali in New York. The guy who owned the flat we stayed at told us in an accent straight out of Woody Allen that "bagels are passé, you need to try a biyali." Can you see the skepticism in my face? Apologies in advance to New Yorkers, but what exactly is the difference? ; )

1) This is adorable. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE posts like this. Retrospective portraits encompassing blogging life...I love them. Like, I get this total calm "coffee break" "deep breath" vibe because every picture has that feeling of a calm moment enjoying something. Its perfection in the afternoon.
2) Beer. Yum.
3) I have no idea what the difference between a bagel and a biyali is and I've been a NY'er for 24 years. Honestly. No clue. I don't really LOVE bagels though, once in awhile. My true love is matzah bread with cream cheese, tomato, red onion and lox...much like people do with a bagel only less puffy.

Also, you're pretty.

Hehe, thanks Kallie! Basically, I'm a fan of any bread product, so bagels, matzah bread and biyalis are all fine by me! : D

New York bagels holy crap. As vegans my boyfriend and I went catnip crazy over them, they even had tofu cream cheese eee! Biyalis, bakes not boiled, but hardly different at all. At least if ever the art of bagel making is lost, there's still it's closely related cousin the biyalis to enjoy! Yes do a beer retrospective too!

Fun post! Coffee is my drug ha ha and so are donuts! Loved your polka dot top on the last one!

love this! these photos are so cute and I love how real they seem. they're more like moments caught in time than outfit posts planned beforehand.

Naomi: Thanks! I guess they are in a way, although with much better hair for the most part than when there's no outfit post involved!

I love this post - what fun! And for the record, as a non-New Yorker myself - what in the world is the difference between bagels (my bread nemesis) and Biyalis? Oh, wait, I think I see the answer in the comment above...baked, not boiled? Whatever.

I'm a tea girl at night - nothing quite so nice as a pot of tea on a cool evening when one needs to relax. In fact, I'm giving away a cute tea-themed gift on one of my giveaway weeks, I just haven't decided if it's going to be this week or the next. At any rate, I'm a huge coffee fan, but I can also be found sipping hot chocolate or spiced apple cider as well. They are all yummy to me! :-)

You look gorgeous and so relaxed in these photos. Except maybe the airport one ;). But who looks good in the airport except people who come off first class.

Oh I love the theme of this post, it gives off a relaxed feeling. I don't like coffee but I drink tea all the time and although it's probably just me I never got what's so great about bagels. In my mind they were something sweet like doughnuts and was let down when I tried them, haha.
The last photo is particularly beautiful, I love your scarf and blouse (dress?).

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Carrie: Agreed! I don't discriminate with my hot drinks! I'm also a fan of hot chocolate, chai lattes, and mulled wine!

@Michelle: Yeah, I hadn't even got on the plane yet... that was one of those flights with Ryanair at 6:30 am when the airport is located an hour outside the city... ouch!

A bialy is made a little different and tastes a little crunchier. Here's the technical info:

Hahaha!! My days are pretty similar when it comes to doing outfit posts. Always out for coffee and drinks. I need to find a place that does fancy swirls like that in my cappuccinos and lattes. Cool beans!! ...see what I did there? Coffee beans? haha..never mind my nerdy-ness.

These photos are great! And I agree, coffee makes everything better.

I love the concept of this post. I think I could do something similar but with me and walking my dog. Yours though makes you seem cool and nonchalant whereas mine would just make me seem like a crazy dog lady.

Ahh what a wonderful post idea! The coffee in the last picture looks incredible *___*

all of you girls are dressed so cute. looove that sailboat dress!

What a cool post! These are some beautiful photos too! I love how they were taken in so many different locations. I have been considering allowing afternoon coffee back into my life (right now I only drink a cup in the morning), and this post is really selling me on the idea. I just know that once I go there, I'll immediately become addicted that afternoon cup. Mmmm, but coffee is so good.

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Julia: I vote for a dog walking post!

@Kailey: Don't judge a book by its cover! Barcelona coffiee is way better than German coffee, so number 4 was probably the best!

I adore this post! Looks like you have so many different varieties and cups and such! If I showed pictures of my coffee drinking experiences all you would see are starbucks cups and my reusable cup!

Thanks for the snippets. I love your style, you always look so cute. That boat dress is a killer! If I had a photo for every coffee I drank... (is drank even a word?)

It's nice to see these everyday shots. you look great. I have sssoooo many travelling coffee photos from my travels too. nice post:)

This is such a lovely idea! I love the third one of you, and the one with your boat dress :) It's great to see more than "just" the outfit photos sometimes! xx

I consume unhealthy amounts of tea and coffee, and yes, most of them at home, so they rather work as an indulging/pondering/breathe in moment where I get ideas. I always take photos of whatever I'm about to eat or drink, but rarely while eating/drinking. My mom is the opposite though, she always takes photos of people as they are halfway through a bite or a sip and those are so unflattering, haha...

Some of these are awfully glam- Such awesome outfits :)

You should see the cup tower on my desk. I am being practically caffeine free today - only five cups so far and it's already past midday.

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Miss Tallulah Porkchop: 'drank' is absolutely a word. Drink drank drunk! Right, leaving my English teacher's platform now...

Ooh...hmm...for your wrist maybe get a wrist brace for a little while it will help strengthen it back up...the only other thing I can think of is some energy work (my aunt is a massage therapist...she does amazing things...once my shoulder was DEAD and within 15 minutes of just touching my shoulder blade and letting my body move her hands it felt better....I can sorta do it on myself now...but only where I can reach XD)

Love this! I often find that tea and coffee inspires my outfits at times. The warm fuzzy feeling you get inside when you drink it on a cold day.

wow..beautiful picks..I like especially the one in which you pretends to be asleep..

never heard of these biyalis but they look like bagels. I love when bloggers post candid pics like these. Its fun seeing the daily habits of fellow bloggers. Coffee is a must for me as well but here in CT its hard to find a nice coffee shop. Starbucks just doesnt cut it after living in NY for six years.

Lovely post... that's why I named my blog coffee break because is great to relax and talk about anything with a nice cup of coffee!

Ashley said...

Alright, I can't wait for the beer break post :)

I think you already know how I feel about coffee. There's something about drinking coffee out of cute little pieces of china that really brightens my day.

LOVE THIS!

That last picture of you is gorgeous!!

I think I personally was more photogenic before I started blogging, it's like now that people are looking I'm a little uncomfortable or something... Or maybe I'm just getting older!

Virginie ♥

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Virginie: Yes and no. I know what you mean... I feel that DSLRs are a bit unforgiving (every detail of your face blown up), plus you're aware of people looking at pictures of you in more detail. Also, I started getting bags under my eyes the last year or so, and I went through a phase of blog paranoia with that where I was always looking down. But on the other hand, having my photo taken so many times has definitely helped show me which faces do and don't work, and helped me relax.

I think you always look gorgeous, for the record!

What a fine little post idea! Most days I've documented on my blog exist in that vacuum you speak of. The outfits were real and worn all day, of course, but rural living isn't very exciting. Coffee is guzzled before running out the door all whilst you're hoping you don't hit a deer on the long commute in to work ;)

I love the last picture so much! The heart shape in your mug just adds so much warmth to this picture. And all of your outfits are so so cute!

ah you are so cute & somehow manage to look great in every pic! If I didn't know better I'd say you look like a perfect Catalan model for coffee drinking. All look so relaxing and romantic.. except maybe the airport, but that gave me a good laugh back to my traveling days of only some sort of bagged bread and coffee.
