in the plaça

These pictures show life in Barcelona pretty accurately. Not that I spend all my time drinking beer in squares (erm, some time though, definitely), but I love the little squares that are everywhere in older zones of the city. People gather throughout the day, but especially in the evening when the temperature becomes perfect, to have a refreshment, mingle, or just sit on a bench. Every neighbourhood has its little old square, but I'm not telling where this one is, because frankly, it's getting hipster enough without my help. ; )

I'm not 100% on this outfit. I love this dress but don't wear it so often... mainly because linen is such a nuisance and wrinkles the second you sit down. I would have continued to keep the robin egg's blue going down to my shoes, (something like Islabell's enviable clogs) but well... I don't have shoes that colour. And really, life's too short to try on all your shoes just to go for a drink in the neighbourhood.

I want to sit in a beautiful square in Barcelona drinking beers with you guys! That sounds perfect. The color of that dress is awesome, funny how i go weak in the knees for all things brown and blue.
xx
one last thing...you nails! yes!

Your necklace is so beautiful! I really like it.

You look very relaxed and happy when you're in Barcelona!

A beer in the sunset in that square? Sounds perfect! I've never been to Barcellona -I only went to Valencia once- but seems such a beautiful and relaxed city!
I like this dress, even though I agree with you on linen...and that necklace? Gorgeous! I can't believe you made it yourself! Why don't you make a tutorial? it would be great!

I like the combination you made and I cannot wait to see Barcelona, maybe next year

@Jul: I made the necklace a long time ago (2006-ish) when I had a job in a bead store. I don't really have the tools with me to do a tutorial. But it's basically a chain, and beads on headpins with the ends curled (as if you're making earring) dangling from the chain. Rock opal, blue turquoise and sterling silver!

Dear Emily
I was away for some time.
I dont see anything else, except you
Have wonderful times.

I love the waist-line detail... but I know that conundrum - silly wrinkley fabric! Clearly we all just need to be attending more events that require standing only and good posture!

the thing I love best about your style is that it's very real and not all thought out and calculated, so who cares that you put some (awesome) red slippers with it: looks great!

and about birkin, chung and isla: since chung is somewhat the birkin of our times, we might just compare isla to both! :-D

Hi Emily, I'm new to your blog.
Red shoes go with EVERYTHING. Although I do love brown and blue. Your dress is divine and despite being crumply, linen is delicious to wear. And your necklace is beautiful.
I'm taking my family to Barcelona next year, I'm excited to see your photos.
Looking forward to seeing more of your pretty adventures.

Oh Barcelona sounds great. Wish I can see it some day. And I thought those red shoes made this looks even better, because of it's randomness. It breaks out, which I like. :)

I meant to add - I have a precious Ruby. She's 8 years old.

Do you know Ruby Red Shoes by Kate Knapp from Twigseeds? You should google her. Very very sweet.

Blue and brown awesomness :) You look fantastic and so does Barcelona of course :D

The dress has a pretty, unusual design. But I agree with you about linen. I avoid it as a fabric for those reasons.

It's nice to learn about new places, such as where you live. You broaden our horizons!

I really welcome the opportunity to see places I'll never be able to visit and lifestyles I otherwise wouldn't know about. Thanks

I don't know how people wear linen and still look fresh. Do they just stand up all day?
I do like this dress, and the backdrop is lovely.

Ohh linen, I hear you! I actually just packed my linen blouse to the weekend but I don't think I'll wear it hehe! The dress is really pretty and in a nice colour, it looks great on you. And is that a necklace from your jewellery making store days? :) It is so pretty and simple. And of course, those shoes! I think they're perfect! I mean I think I loved them more every time you post them, even more you do with my Zara ones hehe. Red shoes are the best shoes and go great with everything!
Ahh and I love that the headscarf (challenge?) matches your nail polish! hehe

PS: Can I have beer too? Seems like the last one I had was with you!!

As soon as I saw that photo of you with the beer I thought, "Aw, man, I want to be there doing that!" I really like the unique details of the dress and the blue and red accents you added. I just expect linen to be at least somewhat wrinkly...it's a small price to pay for how comfortable it is.

aww this dress is so pretty and I love your headband use- def makes me want to give it a shot! You made this necklace yourself? I'm so impressed, it's adorable! This really does remind me of Barcelona, and many parts of Spain, enjoy it! And remember, medicinal functionality is all in you head anyway, poor Dr. Simi's : )

I love the headscarf - I haven't been able to find a way to wrap around my short, fine hair that doesn't look sloppy. So jealous!

Rebecca said...

That is such a lovely dress, I like the pleating and the belt, feels a bit 1950s. I am a bit jealous of those particular shoes myself, but I love your red ones too.

Kirstin said...

What a unique dress, I love it with the nails! Perfect colour combo!

Amber said...

well hello pretty red shoes. I think the red goes great with the your brown dress. I am with you on linen, it wrinkles so easily and its a pain to iron

dahhlayne said...

I am loving how fun you are having in the city! Yeah, I detest clothes that like to wrinkle so easily. Makes me want to carry a portable iron wherever I go. haha

My office mate studied there for a time...and she has described the street life in the evenings and how easy it was to meet people.

What nice shoulders you have, my dear!

I think this is perfect!! A perfect outfit, a perfect evening...it's 7:30 am my time and all I want to do right now is sit outside with a beer...it just looks so refreshing:)

The color of that dress looks just wonderful on you! And this post reminds me of being back in the Dominican Republic just kicking back some drinks around noon when all the stores shut down for lunch. Its something I terribly miss, because lunchtime in NY is just scary when you are near business districts...

Barcelona is the place I want to visit more than any other destination. My brother visited in 2005 and 2009 as he told me about these wonderful squares full of people and cafes. I really love this outfit! Brown is a color that is often forgotten (at least in my closet). But you paired your necklace (make me one :-) so well with the aesthetic of the outfit. Have fun exploring! xx

This dress has some really great details - I like! And what a lovely color palette. Light blues & brown are foolproof together if you ask me. Oh yes, Islabell's clogs pang me with envy every time I see them, but your red ones certainly hold their own ;)

Um, and it looks like you're having an enviable time. Refreshment and leisure time in European city squares? Yes, please!

Monique said...

Your nail color is lovely. I love that it matches your headscarf and necklace. Spending the evenings at a plaza sounds lovely.

were you the one telling me about hampstead vs. east london? (eeps, i lose track!) if so then i definitely agree, i'm sort of sick of the hip scene by now and i don't mind just being in pretty places.

speaking of which, barcelona plaça culture sounds sooo nice right now!
