the first sip... of glühwein
This picture really was the first sip... I'm pretty sure I was jiggling around impatiently at this point saying "I want my Glühwein" or equivalent.
Scary/hilarious mounted fake moose head that moves, blinks, and appears to be singing to itself!
I'm going to go in the next few days and capture the Bonn Christmas markets by day so I can show you all the exquisite German Christmas ornaments and the real colour and texture of proceedings, but in the meantime, suffice to say I am in some kind of perpetually tipsy, cinnamon flavoured heaven. Bratwurst for dinner three times this week! Stollen for breakfast! Pretty lights and Christmas trees everywhere I look... man-made skating rinks (tonight there appeared to be a curling match going on) but most of all... mulled wine. I have to get past my adoration of the traditional recipe so I can try all the other types... like mulled white wine, mulled cherry wine, eggnog punch, and other things I can't really pronounce.
So much happiness.
the second sip...

Lovely post! Reminds me of spending Christmas with my grandparents in Germany, I love the Christmas markets. And Glühwein of course! I'm intrigued by the different flavours... I guess I'll just have to make do with the biscuits and cakes my German teacher has been bringing to our lessons :)
Love these pics. Tres festive.
@ Swans and Lists: My Anglo-Saxon professor brought us mead one year! I say make friends with a German... the ones I know are really amazing about mailing chocolate and advent calendars and things!
Magical! I miss the holiday markets of Europe SO MUCH this time of year. . . the canal in Ottawa tries it's best, and yet and yet. . . .
Ah this is making me all nostalgic for a German christmas. Probably the best time ever to be in Germany. I miss Glühwein terrible but will be testing the French version tomorrow so maybe it'll bring home closer.
Gorgeous photos

Visiting Chicago's Christkindl Market is my favorite event of the season so I'm infinitely jealous you get to experience Germany during the Christmastime. Your bratwurst looks delicious and I love gluhwein too. Can't wait to see your photos of the market during the day.
Ahhhh, this post is so happy! Haha. :) It reminds me of walking around the city my mom's family lives in around Christmastime. :)
I love German advent calendars! They're so beautiful. We had a handmade one my aunt gave to us but I have no clue where it went...
Thanks for your comment on my post earlier! It helped loads and I loved it. ♥

Yummy Bratwurst, I've never had mulled wine. Germany must be such an amazing place to be this time of year! Lovely photos
So much happiness! Indeed!
Aw, a German Christmas!! Seeing this post really made me smile as my grandmother was a german girl and we celebrated Christmas at her house every year with plenty of stollen, rolladen, pfefferkuchen, and so on. Her vintage ornaments from Germany were my favorites.
Your photos are all so lovely and quite charming. Definitely seems like a magical and quite delicious place to spend the holiday season!
Love the atmosphere in these!
ooh I love Stollen! or anything involving marzipan ;) My mom is from Germany, I wish I were there for Christmas! I haven't been back since I was too young for Gluhwein

Gotta love Christmas markets! I wish we had more in the states, and not just mega-malls. I only ever experienced a Christmas market in Prague and it was so cute. Delicious hot drinks as well!
Ah yum, I love gluhwein.. The Germans really know how to do the Christmas market. xx
This sounds a bit rude but that bratwurst is huge! I'm looking forward to our first mulled wine of the season this weekend. Enjoy the haze.
Awww...exams and assignments are currently cramping my Christmas spirit so your blog post has brought a much-needed dose of festivities my way :)
I would love to go to Germany one day. The Christmas markets look amazing!

oh my gosh so many lights! that looks beautiful. I think after a few Glühweins that moose would scare the crap out of me...or I would become its duet partner.
Haha so German, enjoy your Grlühwein! Scholl!
Mmm bratwurst! And I'm so jealous of you getting to try all those types of mulled wine! If I wouldn't die from the cold I'd love to go to Germany over Christmas sine so many of our traditions supposedly come from there. You look super adorable all bundled up in these pics too!
It feels like christmas!
Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog, I love reading every single one and you make my day just by stopping by!

So you are saying that wine is where happiness can be found, right? :)
I love Christmas markets! Today, I went to the one in Brussels... so much fun!
ooh I cannot wait for Christmas!and a cristmas market although not a very greek custom- after 3 years of living abroad- it has become an indication that christmas is coming for me as well!
btw, i had not realised that gluehwein and mulled wine are the same thing! :$$
I'm convinced that Christmas/winter beverages are the best :)
I'm super jealous! I miss Bonn, the Christmas market can't be bested! It's small enough not be tiring but it had enough variety. And the food, especially the poffertjes!
These are so festive and wonderful, I want to go there!
