mirror mirror on the wall

Christmas Day always includes two outfits... the daytime one, then Christmas dinner. This year it was just family at Christmas dinner, so I could have skipped dressing up... but when do I ever skip dressing up? It was a good chance to take my freshly made sparkly star crown for a test drive.

I wore the same thing today, minus the crown, to a new coffee shop in downtown Hamilton. It's a cozily furnished and aggressively heated space with comfortable armchairs and even a chaise lounge. The copy of L.M. Montgomery's Emily Climbs I'm holding in one picture was part of their display... the edition was from 1925 and used to belong to Margaret Brown, according to the flyleaf.

Hehe, I like how these two pictures almost line up... except I'd be a Hindu goddess with multiple arms!

Now I want to make myself a gold star crown! I like the scooped back of your dress and how the two different fabrics play off each other. The coffee shop you visited looks dreamy, I especially like how it looks like an updated version of a Victorian parlor!

Your Christmas Day outfit sure was bee-yoo-ti-ful. I simply adore that dress. And dressing up twice! I'd be thoroughly behind that notion, but I'm pretty sure my family thinks me nuts for dressing up at all (well, with the exception of my mom).

The new coffee shop looks like a charming place. I love exposed brick interiors. What a gorgeous copy of Emily Climbs! One of my dear blogging friends actually sent me a 1949 Australian edition of Emily's Quest for Christmas :D

Oh man, that dress is fantastic! You look wonderful! I totally could have skipped dressing up for Christmas too (it was just my parents and we stood home) but you know, I just can't pass up an excuse to dress up.

What a perfect dress for just about any occasion - and it fits like a well cut glove.
Can't help wondering about Margaret Brown and her copy of Emily Climbs - such as, how old was she when she wrote her name in the front? What did she think of the book? Where did she live?

WOLF359 said...

So classy, I love it!

Maria Ramona said...

what a lovely silhouette on that dress. it's definitely a classic.
btw, i got so used to seeing you in spain, its almost funny to see you in north america. anyway, sounds like your christmas was a blast. happy new year my dear!

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Rosalind: She lived in Hamilton, Ontario, but sadly neither wrote the year, nor her thoughts on the book.

@Maria Ramona: Frankly, it's strange to see myself in Canada... not so much on the streets, but definitely at the mall like on Christmas Eve... having been away so long makes see Canadians as generalizations, rather than individuals. Strange.
