heat stroke and roses

The last few weeks, with the exception of today (cloudy and cool) have been absolutely scorching around here, and I've been stupidly spending mornings on the computer and venturing out in the afternoon, thus guaranteeing myself a shorter lifespan than necessary.

These pictures were taken mostly as Hospicio Cabañas, a famous museum in the centre of Guadalajara. I'm completely mystified as to why it's famous, since on the day we went there was only one exhibit--a mural. Luckily it was free day, so I didn't have to pay to see it, but still. After spending five minutes with the mural we wandered out into the interlocking courtyards that make up the building, and afterwards braved the terrible heat of downtown (by walking through a variety of fountains) and collapsed in the theatre cafe to have a glass of wine!

Here I moodily comtemplate the error that led to my getting Chardonnay instead of Riesling. Blechhh.

Thanks for the nice pictures. Those roses are beautiful. Summer in Guadalajara can be murder.

I could be wrong. I think it is famous because it originally was a hospital.

hehe, I like your "moody" wine photo.

Yeah Turkey! My mom is from there :) I'll be going to a city called Izmir. It's a few hours south of Istanbul, but still on the west side of Turkey.

Guadalajara certainly boasts some terrific architecture. That courtyard with its perimeter lined with roses is most pretty. Speaking of pretty, I can't get over how well your lace cover-up and denim skirt go together.

All this Emily of New Moon talk is making me want to abandon the books I'm reading and reread the series again even after already doing so this past spring. Ever since I began reading L.M. Montgomery I've been smitten with that period of time (late Victorian/Edwardian/1910>1919) and have always thought it wonderful to be able to dress in such an elegant sort of way*. That's why I delight in sweet little details like eyelet :)

*Except for the excessive wool layers, corsets, and other restrictive garments. Apparently, beauty really is pain.
