a day for extra large sunglasses

The leaves have started falling in Barcelona. I had forgotten that they did that so soon. By July, the trees, exhausted from the heat and humidity and with more to come, begin to relinquish their leaves, which collect underfoot, given a strangely autumnal air despite the 30 degree heat.

I feel rather like a tree, losing layers of protection and pretense, sweltering in a new reality, standing very still to conserve resources. I don't remember if the leaves grow back again during the summer, or if they keep falling until they sit in dusty brown piles in the parks in November.

I LOVE your skirt! I'm obsessed with all things bird-related lately. You write really beautifully too... there's a poetic quality to your writing.

Your pictures are so gorgeous, the setting is magical. I can't believe its that hot there already! (Its only about 23-24 degrees here still...yes I converted to celsius for you!). That giant flower is so pretty that you're standing near.
PS: I'm going to steal your shoes! Say hi to Albert!

These shots remind me of a house I walked past once that had a big sign saying "Beware the agapnthas". Now I always think of them as a little bit sinister!

well dont you look sexy lounging on those stairs, love that shot

I am usually a little cautious about commenting on younger women's blogs. I don't want them to feel like the old lady brigade is coming to town.
I will say you are beautiful and your pictures are stunning.
I adore your skirt.
Ok, back to the dining room for a pic. I still don't have the guts to take them outside.

@Shybiker: aw, thank you!

@Kallie: Hehe, the temperature conversion is much appreciated! And yeah, it gets super hot here in the summer.. there's worse to come...

@Tammy: The "old lady brigade" is more than welcome along with everyone else. Hope you get out of the living room one day. ; )

That skirt has an amazing print! Wow, it's like it's signalling the end of summer already! Is it the heat or the wind that does that? Thanks for your comment by the way, I'm trying to get myself into a more positive frame of mind for any future interviews! xx

AMAZING skirt! Such a fab print, shape and colour palette :)

Ai ai I really missed seeing this skirt and these sandals in your blog!! This outfit is so so lovely, one of your best summer outfits in my opinion!

It is a bit weird to see leaves falling in early July I must say, I don't know if that happens here too since I never noticed it, but probably not. The weather has been strange, in the same day can be grey, gloomy and cool and changing into sun and sweltering hot later. Or one day cool and raining and the other so hot you can't almost leave the house! Oh climate changing...

Anyway, apart from the outfit being lovely and you looking so pretty, the pictures are awesome too! Yay Albert!

Gorgeous as per usual ;) and these photos are dreamy too

Crazy stuff about the leafs. No fear of that here *sigh* ;)

I love everything about this outfit!! Adding it to my pinterest

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Raquel: Thanks! I don't know why I don't wear this skirt more often. Probably because it's linen and therefore a nuisance.

The weather here is a bit manic too. Today seems to be trying to rain, then is super humid, then hot and sunny, and currently cool and cloudy and breezy. Never thought I'd say it but I think I prefer the latter!

Huh, I had no idea that trees lost their leaves mid-summer like that anywhere. Although maybe it explains why I was being pelted by some yellow leaves in the park mid-June during a dry spell... It's up in the 30's here in Ottawa, Ontario too, but so humid! I could bare it without the humidity. I just want to spend all day laying on a blanket in the shade.

@Sophie: Ah, there're beautiful locations for photoshoots everywhere... but Barcelona certainly has more than its fair share of them!

Oh, I hope the trees don't loose all leaves. It seems so..to be the end for those poor trees and then everything will be cold for ages. So I hope it's only because of the heat.

But to change subject, really like the cages on your dress. Seem fitting to your post a little.

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

Hehe, the trees will be fine, Whitemaskgirl. It certainly could not be considered cold around here until late November anyway... they always lose their leaves at this time of year here... it's just that I had forgotten...

I love this skirt and I love that this post followed Zoe with her pear printed dress. Gotta love prints. I have to admit before blogging I was not open to prints and now I just love them. This skirt is perfect in so many ways the color, length and print are just great. Happy Summer sounds like you in the thick of it.

it gets painfully hot in my central california hometown (up to 115 degrees)...but i haven't seen any trees lose their leaves!

I wanted that skirt for so long! The print is beautiful, and I am especially a big fan of the color combination. Falling leaves- yes! That may be one of my favorite parts of changing seasons. xx

So odd that the trees lose their leaves, but even more odd that simply because it doesn't happen in my backyard, I'd have never known.

You are a vision as always, and you could very well be in a lookbook with this outfit.

my guy just said "oh, that's a really cool one" (referring to your outfit). so just thought I'd share a guy comment! I love your outfit too, very casual summer but reminiscent of days when people didn't just walk around in cloth shorts and flip flops. Oh wait, Europeans still dress nice(er than Americans at least : ) So cool to see the leaves falling there and loved reading your description of it, very poetic-sounding.
