país tropical

This is my favourite dress that I hardly ever wear. It's honestly, a bit bright even for me, but I love pink and orange as a combination, and I find the shape really flattering. Given my tropical inspiration recently, I knew I wanted a setting with palm trees, so we went to Plaça Reial, a beautiful square in the middle of Barcelona that is unfortunately a complete tourist trap. The light was beautiful though. ; ) And this is also one of my favourite photo shoots ever!

Since my Summer Stories series has been quite popular and since there are so many more summer stories than I could properly feature, I thought it would be nice to throw it open a little bit (she says, shivering in freezing Germany--I just want to live vicariously!)

So, for anyone who'd like to participate:
1.Send me a photo you feel really captures your summer or represents something interesting this summer (doesn't have to be of you, or fashion related, though it can be) At least 600 pixels wide please.
2. Write one or two lines max explaining why it's important (optional)
3. Email the above to rubyslipperjourneys(at)gmail(dot)com, with a link to your blog if applicable.

I'll collect the submissions together and post them a few at a time, with a link back to you blog (if you have a blog; you don't need one to submit). Anybody up for that? I hope so!

I DON'T WANT: Overly shameless self-promotion, blurry pics of you and your boyfriend (we don't care) or anything, ANYTHING Lolita-themed. I am so disgusted by something I just saw used as "inspiration" this afternoon that I can only splutter at the moment.

Love, the Grinch. ; )

dress: Pure by Alfred Sung, Liz Claiborne shoes, vintage purse via Mom, old anklet.

P.S. This outfit is "so 2009" for me. That's when I bought the dress and shoes and wore them to every job interview imaginable, most of which were pretty random... I got taken to one by an retired Mexican wrestler who knew all the bigwigs in town, and in another the head of the Department of Employment tried to kiss me and said I should give him private English classes. Ew. Talk about summer stories!

I love orange/pink and especially with matching nail polish! Gorgeous :) Right, when you're next in London prepare to be burgled.. I am donning camouflage and thieving your wardrobe.

So hard to come up with summer inspiration when it seems so elusive around here.. I'll have to think about that one a bit more :)

I like how you even went so far as to match your nails to the dress. This particular combination of orange and pink is gorgeous.

@Vanessa: Ugh, I know, it's shocking weather here!

@Stef: you'll be the one in the pink balaclava then? ; )

@Emily: I always go so far, if I can!

It sounds like you've had many adventures in this dress! I don't think the color is too bright at all, it's perfect for hot, summer days. I'm enjoying the setting of these pictures too, urban with a touch of nature.

Gorgeous gorgeous dress!! Love the bright colors on you:) I wish I could contribute to your inspirational summer stories, but my summer has been somewhat of a crapper. Too much work, not enough fun...or drinking. I've had pineapple rum sitting in my fridge to party it up with friends for a whole 2 months now! hahaha..oh well..

Tourist spots are the best to take pictures cause it seems like you aren't the only one posing for a camera! I love the dress, definitely summertime. And you have me curious what lolita inspiration disgusted you so much hahaha. Im just nosy.

pink and orange make for a lovely colour match. pretty dress, so vibrant. the tropical background is perfect for it. I have really loved your summer stories, new faces and great captivating summer tales. and yes talk about summer stories :)

This dress really is very flatting & I love the fun colors together, and that it has a rose pattern but actually looks so tropical! I don't see any sort of picnic bench, but my favorite thing to do in the "tourist trap" places that you just have to stop and enjoy sometime is to just take in the sites for free, although preferably not sitting on the ground. That is SO creepy about that Department head tried to kiss you! Ew, sounds like Mad Men & the worst part is he prob got away with it there just like they did in the 50s! Well, enough here, I'm gettin my shit together to email you about my summer!

Well Plaça Reial is next to the Ramblas (20 metres). Very touristic of course. Nice, vey nice dress. I like the colors.

My summer has been uninspiring, so I can't think of anything to send, but I'm sure it will be fun to read about others!

And by the way, that dress is totally adorable and very flattering! Love it!

All pictures are nice but I like the first one most. Ask Albert to keep background also in focus....so that we (at least I) get some idea about the city/town :)))

I have never seen these two colors mixed before but they are beautiful! I love this dress. And you picked great shoes to go with it.

Love this shoot too! I admire you for taking pics in such a busy place. I took some outfit pics in public recently and didn't feel that self conscience. Honestly, I thought if Emily can do it then so can I :) Thanks for inspiration.

The dress is stunning! I think you should definitely wear it more often. And so funny to read about your experiences with job interviews. I have an "interview" outfit that I wear for those occasions, as well as a "professional" outfit I wear for presentations and conferences. The dress is a total keeper! xx

I spot an anklet!for me the ultimate summer accessorie no matter how many years have passed!:)

this remains a lovely outfit. I have two new members of my household--my oldest daughter and my grandson. I may send you a photo of the grandson...and a bit of the story. Does that sound appropriate?

@Jennyboo: Yep, there's no way I would ever get rid of this dress!
@Penny: I only have one anklet but it's my favourite summer accessory. I think there's a scene in Funny Face (with Audrey Hepburn) where they talk about the effect of a good anklet.
@Terri: Definitely, I'd love it if you contributed. : )

Looks like a fun dress, you should use it more often. Those summer stories also sounds great, but my best memories this summer comes from when I was with my husband i assume I can't join in. But want to read the others!

You look gorgeous, I love the colour combination on your dress.
I wonder if that lolita themed inspiration post was mine...I didn't want to offend anybody, just wanted to share some clothes I liked. I respect everyone's opinion, so if you have something to say about what I see as an inspiration, please write me in private.

this dress is gloriously gorgeous. i usually steer clear of bright-on-bright, but i really, really love this and it looks fantastic on you!

love your mexican job interview anecdotes... this is precisely why i want to travel! even if some experiences are gross and/or horrifying, you usually make it out alive and have a funny little tale to tell ;)
