flower power
I realized, that for a person who claims to be not very fond of floral print clothing, I'm wearing no fewer than four florals in this outfit. I think it's not floral I object to so much (what kind of Scrooge could really object to flowers), but the ubiquitous nature of floral prints. It appears to be either the easiest, cheapest. or most universally appealing print manufacturers can produce, and I guess I just find it annoying that just because I'm female, it's assumed I want to be covered in flowers all the time. I'm reasonably girly, but don't like to be saccharine. So I'm subverting it with an overload of clashing florals. Or something.
Moving on, this was a great day out in Brooklyn. We walked over the Brooklyn bridge and then down to a restaurant called Junior's, which everyone seems to know about, and where I had artery-clogging eggs benedict and even more heart-attack-inducing cheesecake, while trying to eavesdrop on the next table, where two little old men straight out of a Woody Allen film were talking about relationships and their feelings! Then we walked down to one of the Beacon's Closet locations and to a few other vintage shops, wandered down some picturesque streets like these ones, and I imagined myself as a little girl living in a tenement in the early 20th century (I've been rereading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and finally went to Prospect Park and to the Brooklyn Public Library, before staggering home exhausted.
Photos by Albert. And yep, this is the new camera. We're so in love, though we're still figuring a lot of things out...

Nice pics. I hope you like your new camera
I know your sentiment toward gender-expectations; sometimes it's hard to separate that from the actual appeal of certain items.
Brooklyn! Glad you saw the area. I was there a few months ago to see the Botanical Garden, Museum, Park, etc. It's a fun place with centuries of history. With a little imagination, you can dream you were there when horse-drawn carriages roamed the streets.
Lovely mix! the first picture looks like a photo shoot for a magazine!
have a nice weekend emily ;)
cute cute cute cute. i love your life. love love.
also. question. you posted once about writing generic romance novels. can you give me more infooooo?

I am loving all the flower overload going on here! And nice to see you wearing the scarf you got from "my" charity shop, gives you a very Portuguese vibe ;) Actually today would've been a good day for you to go there with me, all coat and jackets for half price, needless to say I got 2 jackets and 1 Moschino silk blouse, all for only £5!
Hope you're having such a nice weather up north as we're having here right now. And also, if you need to store some things at my house before going to Barcelona just let me know.
You mixed the prints REALLY well.
If I say something, they might say I am biased!
But I cant make out the flowers and you!
I know exactly what you mean! I don't exactly like skull prints, but I'm seriously over florals being the only thing thats offered. I think they are beautiful, but I wish there were more options!
Love that new camera!!! You look adorable :)
thanks for your sweet comment. this photos are so comforting cause they look like so much fun!! old men talking about love and feelings! beacons closet! beautiful weather too! clashing florals are certainly in order for days like these.

you re so gorgeous in the last picture!and quality-wise, the new camera rocks!
your new camera takes amazing shots. The quality is fantastic. Hope you have continued nice weather for your weekend
An overloaded clash? No! A frenzy of floral fun is more like it :)
While I like floral prints as much as the next girl, I hear where you're coming from. They really are cheapest and easiest route for manufacturers to take, but some are beyond ugggglyyy. Not even perceived gender expectations can help some of them. And like you said, just because I'm female I don't want to be expected to like and ultimately buy them. That said, I'm very much in favor of men wearing floral prints and have seen many (usually in western/cowboy style shirts) do so flawlessly.
Artery-clogging eggs benedict? All I have to say is ''mmm.''
lovely pictures!! i love the patterns!

You are so pretty! That last photo is my favorite. I know what you mean about florals too. Even though I do like some floral prints, there's definitely an overabundance of them, and they tend to look the same after a while. I like how you mixed it up with all the different patterns here though!
These photos make me miss the city so much. seeing those brownstones in the background reminds me of all my dad's stories of hanging out on the stoop when he was a kid ..
It sounds like you had such a great day. I love eavesdropping on people in restaurants, especially in New York- so many characters! Also, I love A Tree Grows In Brooklyn!! You must like it too, considering you're rereading it?
Oh, I love all of the florals in your outfit! They all just work so well together! I've actually never been to Brooklyn, which is ridiculous since I live so near to it, but I've eaten a lot of Junior's cheesecake because my family's a big fan of it. Those guys at the restaurant sound so very charming!
I like the pattern mixing you did here. Subvert all those floral stereotypes!
I must say, I'm a bit jealous that you went to Prospect Park. It is one of my favorite places in the world. I even did a little outfit shoot there: http://dearfishvintage.blogspot.com/2010/09/prospecting.html. I hope your visit was wonderful! A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is such a good book. I have been meaning to re-read it forever!
You are a veritable bouquet. I have trouble wearing florals, but for different reasons. I associate it with the uniform of Baptist church ladies!
Love all the florals, so well put together, beautiful.
LOVE the mixed patterns girl!! xo

Por lo visto el poder floral llegó con fuerzas y realmente lo estás usando muy seguido, pero te queda bien y te ves muy linda :)

Ha. This is interesting, in the good way. I hate floral prints (kind of the same reason why you do, I suppose, when I really think of it) but I like this. I understand your language!
I've never read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and now I really want to. Thanks. And with my handy e-reader, I can start tonight!
Nice pics and cute outfit.=)
clashing florals. I like, rebelling against the pretty flower norm! as artery clogging as the food sounds, I'm sure it was heavenly, fat is honestly irresistable.
I love the mix of prints, especially the top <3 xx
I LOVE all the mixed prints! This is such a cute outfit!
shy
fantasically bold move! not just anyone can pull off four florals so effortlessly.
