i capture the castle

again

juan o'gorman mural

Last Sunday, while in Mexico City, we went to Chapultepec Castle, located in an enormous park that I wish there'd been more time to explore. The castle was located on a small hill (a five minute walk at most, but there were scores of Mexicans in lines waiting to take a little train up and down). It was a great little trip, and I definitely want to plan my weekends better from now on. I never would have discovered the castle in my usual wandering way, and I think it's pretty much unmissable.

Outside there were gardens and wonderful panoramic views of the city, inside were sumptuously furnished rooms, historical exhibits, and some of the requisite Mexico City murals. The one above is by Juan O'Gorman (such a Mexican name!) and really represents the nature of the city: chaotic, full of people and big ideas.

who's the fairest?

While I thought waiting for the train was a bit silly I wouldn't have said no to a ride in this...

I dressed with comfort and unpredictable weather in mind; matching the patio was a happy accident!

statues of the niños heroes, or six child cadets who died defending the castle at some point in its history... sorry, I must have not been paying attention during that exhibit!

That looks like such a fun little trip! Is that a carriage I see? Gorgeous.
Love your bag!

Thanks for letting me know about the little glitch on my blog. Photobucket is giving me a little trouble. I believe you should be able to see the photos on the most recent post for now.

Have a terrific weekend! x

Sounds like quite the trip! I'm glad you had so much fun. And I wouldn't have minded playing Cinderella with that lovely carriage. Sigh.

so many great photos of the city, and such a cute outfit too!

I wanted to thank you for your comment on my last post. Isn't it nuts about the heels? Since starting my blog, I've developed more of a conceptual eye for fashion rather than a practical one. Sure, if I was styling for a magazine I would pick those heels, but I'm not, I'm styling for a girl who's just going to run some errands and work on the computer all day. I think it's safe to say that after my last post (with the amazing comments you guys left) that I will definitely be doing everything my way now with no concern with what the rest of the world thinks. You guys are so awesome for helping me realize that!

The shot of you on the patio, A+!!

And of course the offer still stands!! I will add you after I make this comment.

And no kidding, you were hit by a car too?! Geez! If I might asked, what happened? In my case, a friend and I were using a crosswalk (the kind where the cars stop when they see you, the actual cross walk isn't controlled by a light) and an 80 year old man just mowed us over in his brand new Lexus! My friend was pretty much fine but I had to stay in the hospital for a week and get two surgeries. Luckily, that's all pretty much past (my knee is still messed up, though!) but it's definitely something i'll never forget.

and ahhh at that novel of a comment!!

First off, I love the title of your post. If my to-read list wasn't miles long, I'd reread I Capture the Castle in a heartbeat :)

This looks like a delightful place to visit. Exhibits and gardens is a combination that never fails.

Silk shorts. I've been wanting a pair for some time now, but never seem to cross paths with them. Hmm...

Oh, love this also! Considering I lived in Mexico City for nearly 11 months I should have gone up here way more because it really is lovely! I see a few of these pictures in my last post of all around town, but a much better idea is to just focus on the castle : ) cute casual outfit too!
