imaginary costume party

Photobucket
Art print, available here.

So it seems I am invited to a Halloween party, which, damn it, means finding a costume. I'm thinking of wearing this gingham dress and going as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. Although I still don't have any ruby slippers!

Meanwhile, I'm entertaining myself by planning an imaginary Day of the Dead themed party, and the outfit for it...

Silk satin and silk organza sugar skull dress, available here.

Photobucket
Calavera mary janes or a Til Death do us Part ring, anyone?

Photobucket
I think this elegantly ghoulish carry-bag should keep my vanity in check for the evening. Available here.

And you better believe I would decorate with these guys!

Halloween isn't my favorite, although the idea of dressing up is always fun... though equally daunting at times.

Hmm... you could still go as Dorothy, but perhaps before Oz? Dorothy in Kansas? ;)

You need my Juana skull necklace too -- that skull design was based on a Day of the Dead skull!

@ Emily: I love you for saying that! I've been thinking that all along, that my hiking boots will be fine for "Dorothy in Kansas." And saves me rushing to all the charity shops looking for red shoes. And a toy dog.

The el Dia de los Muertos theme is a real favorite of mine, and I've seen a lot of work done in such a way. Yet I would love to own all of these pieces! Amazing!

I love the bag! My office mate is Latina and shares a sugar skull with me every year. Any chance you'll find any of those in London?

That dress will make for a perfect Dorothy :)
Last year I ended up going to a halloween party (wasn't yet big in Austria by the time I left and I have only had kids knock the door once in all the years I have been in England.. maybe we're such scary neighbours they don't dare?) Anyway, it was themed as well so I had to be a fairy tale character. Ugh. I went as The Little Mermaid - you know, the grim one that doesn't end well and involves lots of pain and walking on swords. Despite all the blood everybody thought I was the disney version and nobody else kept to the theme either. Typical ;)

ummmmm....if that dress wasn't $400 then I would SO buy it. LOVE IT!

Also, have you watched project runway at all this season. There is a desinger, Mondo, who played around with Dio de los Muertos ideas in his line.

This girl's blog shows some of the clothes: http://thegirlsgirl.blogspot.com/2010/10/mondo-makes-me-happy.html
