easter cupcake

So, this look is a bit more cream puff than I usually go for, but it's always fun to experiment outside your comfort zone a bit. I bought this dress off ebay with some of my Christmas money, which I got in lieu of presents this year, due to locational and address difficulties. I wasn't sure whether to bid on it, but finally I couldn't resist the novelty pattern, which consists of robots, russian dolls and skeleton keys, among less recognizable shapes.

On another note, I stole these socks from Urban Outfitters--inadvertently I promise! My usual routine in Urban Outfitters is to wander around, think "Oh that's cute.... wtf, that is so not worth £80." Then I'll try on something by tba and be outraged at the price vs. the fact that it's made of polyester. Then I'll reach a breaking point when I throw up my hands and think "I need to get out of here." Which is what happened this time, except that I forgot I was holding these socks. I realized when I was at the underground station, and I didn't go back. I guess I'll have to go to confession this Easter. ; ) Whatever, these shoes were $40, and while they're very cute, they are murdering my feet from all directions, so UO and I can call it even I suppose.

Look how heavily it weighs on my conscience...

Speaking of Easter, a sweet tradition in Barcelona is that all the pastry shops sell chocolate statues. Some are amazingly detailed, and often they represent popular figures, such as Barça players (I'm still sad about the final of the Copa del Rey, for any Spanish football fan readers--unlikely, I realize). Anyway, there was a selection in the windows of the little square where we took these photos.

This looks really cute on you, though, and I love the easy, undone hair. OH, and once I ordered some stuff online from UO, including three pairs of socks, and I only got two (I think one got lost in the mail because my package came to me totally damaged) and I never reported it...so there! You don't need to feel bad anymore. I didn't get socks that I paid for, and you got socks that you DIDN'T pay for. So it all works out. Right? Right!

Barcelona looks amazing. Just gotta say.

Man, I hate shoes that look like they should be comfy but they're so not! Excellent dress tho :)

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Ashley: Ha! You have no idea how irritated I was that I couldn't find a decent one without flowers!

those shoes are adorable, thats so annoying they are uncomfy. i was thinking of buying a pair just like that online. Now I think I hold of and buy them when i can try them on to make sure they don't kill my feel.

you look so cute today, i love the photo of you jumping
xx

I think this is my favorite outfit ever of yours!! That dress is so cuteeee eeekkk!!! And i've always been searching for a belt that is a nice turquoise like that. Love the shoes and socks and I want to jump inside that window display from the last photo... shrink myself and possibly live there???

Nice pictures Emily.

that dress is adorrrrable! this is the easter outfit you spoke of, i presume? :) love it. also, urban outfitters robs everyone everyday who shops there, so you were only correcting an injustice. can't fault you for that. also, those chocolate statues are so amazing! i would want one except i wouldn't be able to handle not eating it (once when i was a kid i got a decorative egg made out of sugar--yes, just sugar--and i even ate that! my sweet tooth is out of control).

ps love the new header!

@Caitlin: My thoughts exactly about Urban Outfitters!

Ashley said...

I absolutely love that dress! I think it can be really fun to just go all out girly from head to toe sometimes:)

If it makes you feel any better, I recently walked ot of a supermarket with an eyeliner I didn't pay for because it had fallen all the way to the bottom of the shopping cart and I didn't see it when I got to the checkout!

xxThank you so much for following my blog! I'm following you nowxx

the print, the print, the print. Its so cute! Cream puff yes but I like cream puffs :) Oh and dont worry about jacking those socks from UO, I doubt they are hurting from it

Opal Wells said...

Just think... those socks probably cost UO 30 cents. I wouldn't worry about it too much. That corporation has enough money the way it is! Regardless.... they are adorable! And that dress!! Totally amazing.

I noticed you new header! And I love it, so relevant to what you do while so lovable. pretty pretty dress, the pattern is irressitable. socks were a real steal weren't they (I had to)! your shoes are a piece of lovely, even if they hurt.

Sarah said...

I love that your story is in sharp contrast with the look you created, here. (I'm sure I'm not the first person to have commented similarly.) I've come very close to doing that with a small item before--I'm glad to know it happens to others and not just me!

The print on that dress is fun. I don't know that I'd ever go for it but you're making it work! I'm a little jealous.

Find me at Just Take a Bow.

OMG! haha so sorry! I just saw your comment on the toothbrush blog. That's a blog I, along with a few group members created for one of our marketing classes! I guess I was still signed into that account when I commented!! haha oh man! I signed up under the toothbrush blog account with my school/work email address while my personal blog is with my personal email address because I didn't want my classmates looking at my personal blog!! I bet my other group members are probably weirded out saying "who is this person?" haha Sorry about that!

It's kind of amazing that you accidentally stole those from UO! I swear, they need some stealing going on, they are making ridiculous amounts of money off of me! Barcelona is so lovely, I hope you're having an amazing time!

It is a wonder that you didn't set off some shoplifting monitor somewhere...and only after several weeks of no blog posts, we discover you in a jail somewhere.

I actually like this look on you. It's springy and you are light on your feet.

That dress is lovely :) Considering the price of everything in UO I think accidently leaving with the socks is allowed ;) they look perfect with the sandals so maybe it was fate.. xx

I once inadvertent stole a Sprite from a shop.. I picked it up, drank it as I shopped, and then a sales gal offered to throw it away for me. I felt so bad afterward.. ha!

Anyhow, I swear you are getting more and more gorgeous, and I'm not just saying that. xoxoxo

Absolutely love this dress. Great bid. Really like the pairing with the shoes/socks.

I sometimes worry I'll accidentally walk out of a shop with unpurchased goods and always double check myself.

PS- Great new layout and header.

I really like the dress. It's so sweet, but it also has that retro chic feel ala Zooey Deschanel. I'd totally wear it! I also adore the picture of you jumping. I always try for photos like this, but can never quite get a shot mid-air

The dress was worth the bids, you cant beat a good print. Switzerland has similar chocolate displays all year around...amazing!

you're the cutest! happy easter, i hope it was relaxing at least :) i have the same thoughts as you as I walk through UO, unfortunately!

THat dress is so lovely! It goes perfectly with the shoes, but shame they are so painful.

I once accidentally left a restaurant without paying, but I felt so guilty and worried I trekked back across town to pay! They hadn't even noticed!

Rebeccak said...

It is actually really cool to see you in something so frilly and girly! It totally suits you - and seems perfect for spring. Never a bad thing to break out of your comfort zone!

Anonymous said...

Love this dress - robots and russian dolls - who could resist?!

I walked out of Claire's with a pair of earrings caught in my hoodie once. I was a little miffed I didn't "thief" a nicer pair :p

Raquel said...

OHHHH I don't know how to express how much i like that dress! It's darling! And nicely accessorized with that belt and shoes! I think this must be one of my favourite outfits from you :)
I know what you mean about the shoes, I have a very similar pair from Zara and after some walking my feet get really sore. But I tried today the Swedish Hasbeens + H&M shoes that are very similar to yours today and they were very surprisingly comfortable, like they were made for my feet! If I could I would have got them, but anyway, I have already one pair of wooden sandals, that are at Madeira though :/
And I wouldn't worry about the socks, UO didn't loose anything with that, with their prices they don't loose any money I am sure!

PS: I am really enjoying your new layout and header! :)

Adora Mehitabel said...

thankyou for your beautiful comment. you made me smile :)
i love your blog. your photos are so so preety.

Monique said...

First off, I love the new blog design. I mean love love love it. It's so soft and easy on the eyes and has a nice vintage feel to it.

2nd, thanks for the birthday wishes.

3rd, Your dress is adorable. Those shoes look like they may be comfortable but then again the wooden sole can be a tricky one.

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Monique: The wooden soles are not the problem so much as the fake leather straps. But it's ok, I stomped around wearing them with thick socks today, looking a bit stupid in Barcelona in the spring time, but it's helping to loosen them up!

Caitlin Rose said...

Oh I love your dress! and yes, that's exactly my own experience at UO, except I also would include asking someone working for a size of shoe and watch them talk to their friend instead of getting the shoe.

Lovely Blog Emily. Thank you very much for checking out my blog. I can't wait to start following you. oh, and you're Canadian, which is always nice : )

Penny said...

hahahahh!i laughed a lot with this story!the same thing has happened to me- unfortunately i got out of the store carrying a swimsuit which was far from being my size...i think i held it on my hand to browse behind it for a bigger size and then got out of the store because i didnt find anything and it was still with me!i gifted it to a girlfriend!

What I don't understand is that why UO sells such gross stuff that looks very cute but murders you when you put it on!!!

Just so you know I am loving your Barcelona shots, kind of living vicariously through you. :) It's been a long cherished dream to go there.

That's such a pretty dress, I adore the pattern! You have such a lovely blog going on here xxx

Wangari said...

That dress is adorable, I'm glad you decided to buy it even though it's not something you usually go for. I rarely find anything at uo that I'm willing to shell out for (except for when they have sales) so I agree with your assessment - shoes that hurt vs stolen socks = even :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog btw and for your lovely comment!
