the gentle breeze that ruffles the leaves

The sunshine has returned after two days of rain, my toenails are golden yellow, and I am in an implacably good mood! My sister Morna and I are going thrifting today, if we can manage to drag ourselves away from this full pot of tea... Since emailing my thesis in yesterday, life has consisted of: breakfast with Baileys, dog walks with my sister, my parents and I co-buying me a camera for my birthday, and perogies with copious amounts of wine for dinner! Morna and I watched The Wind that Shakes the Barley last night, which, while an excellent movie, kind of makes you want to go and slit your wrists afterwards. So some lighter fare is on the agenda tonight!

I rescued this bag from a box. I know some of you have been saying I find a lot of things in boxes... well, I come from a family of confirmed packrats, and we've also just moved across the country, so there are a lot of boxes around. The most exciting part of this look is actually the sandals, which my mom had hand-made in the seventies. Except the shoe-maker took a dislike to my mom, although he quite fancied her cousin. Accordingly, the cousin's shoes fit perfectly, but my mom's have always been too small on her. Forty-odd years later, they fit me perfectly, so all's well that end's well!

My mom bought me this lovely Celtic-inspired peridot necklace for last year's birthday, but just gave it to me a few weeks ago, since we hadn't seen each other before.

Enjoy your weekends, everyone!

Your toenails match your bag and your scarf! I love the yellow (obviously). P.S. I love the sandals! You're so lucky they fit you perfectly.

haha I'll save watching that movie for another day then! That is so funny about the sandals and I must say in my compulsive give-away family they would have been long gone a long time ago, which would be sad, they are amazing. CONGRATS ON FINISHING YOUR THESIS!! Such a huge step! Let me know if you post it anywhere, I'd love to read it, just up my interest-alley : )

Love the look (although after having had to wear the most hideous brown uniform through high school I have an aversion to wearing brown myself).

Also, your mom must be a pretty awesome lady, those shoes are amazing.

I love that post-exam/thesis feeling - that odd sensation when you realise you actually have nothing to do and your newly discovered independence almost seems too good to be true... Glad to hear you're making the most of it! And what a fantastic story about those equally fantastic sandals!

Love, LOVE, LOVE those shoes!! I noticed them right away in the photo and was going to say something about them even before I read the story behind them (how funny, by the way!). My favorite pair of sandals were hand made for me in Tanzania and I have worn them until they are almost coming apart. I feel a traveling urge coming upon me...

Have a good week-end and enjoy your freedom! :-)

Ah, such good ways to kick off the post-thesis celebrating. Perogies - yes! Wrist slitting - no so much. I agree; excellent movie, but such a downer.

Beautiful sandals. It's always a plus when things have an interesting story attached to them (and are made of rich brown leather ;)

This outfit is really cute but I really love the yellow polka dot scarf tied to the yellow bag :)

Also thanks for the lovely comment you left on my blog :) And in response to your answer, I have never been to Barcelona, I went to Madrid and loved it though - funny thing is people always say how different these two main cities are! Hailes <3

I adore your yellow vintage handbag, I've yet to find a bag in that shade on my thrifting adventures. You're lucky to inherit your mother's 70s goodies and that you can fit into them... my mom didn't hold on to most of her things sadly.

You do the brown well. I am trying to imagine Bailey's for breakfast...

@Terri: Baileys in coffee. ; ) I'm not sure even I'm hardcore enough for shots at breakfast!

Brown looks lovely on you! You're very lucky; it makes most people look like a big poop.

Emily, Ruby Slipper Journeys said...

@Julia: Hmmm, I'm sensing a lot of brown hatred out there... I never considered it's poop possibilities...

The scarf tied around your purse is a nice touch.

these browns look so soft and elegant on you. Custom made shoes are so luxurious and almost from another time (literally in your case), very cool.

Congrats on handing in your thesis! Love these pics, they are so whimsical. I think it's pretty awesome that your mom kept those sandals!

This bag is absolutely gorgeous. I love the way you tied the scarf around it. Also, you look awesome in brown. Seriously. Brown is so much more difficult to pull off than black, and you do it effortlessly, so bravo! :) You're too beautiful.
